Works for strapping downs my 14' fishing boat to my trailer. A little too long, prefer a simple open hook on the ends, and not accustomed to the flip type tightening mechanism. But it's sturdy and I'm sure will hold tight.
good product, very strong straping boat down
I'm very pleased with the tie downs. They fit perfectly over my boat and the material seems decently strong. The material is like a smooth nylon, but doesn't seem to fray easily and I'm still able to handle it in my hands without worrying about it slipping out. I love Ozark products!
This gunwale tie-down is great for securing the aft section of your boat & restricting movement on the trailer while on the road. It has a 400# load limit strength and the strap is resistant to chemicals. The buckles are easily adjusted and quick tightening and are coated to prevent corrosion.
I was offered the opportunity to test this 13 ft tow strap, so I did. We may not have a boat to test it on, but, we used it where it served its purpose beautifully. It's a heavy duty strap too! We used it to tie down a small load of lumber, to build a small chicken coop for grandson's chickens, on top of the van's cargo rack. And it worked great!! No problem with any of the boards working loose at all!
You really never know when you will need one of these babies. They come in handy for a number of things. I’ve had to use them to haul things for work in my car that I would think I could never fit in my car trust me. I’ll think there is NO WAY!!! I put it in. Secure it by tying it down and securing it and viola. It’s good to go. I can take it to another location and I don’t have to borrow a vehicle or call someone and especially RELY ON SOMEONE ELSE! This seems to be a problem for me so this is why I like to do it myself.
In reality, I did not use this gunwale tie down for its intended use. I really liked the spring latches on the s hooks that would keep the hooks attached in case my load shifted. I have been using this strap to secure inflatables and life jackets inside the boat to and from the lake. At 13 feet long, it is just right to fit from the front of the boat to the ski pole toward the rear and works great. I am sure it would work well for its intended use also. The strap materal seems well made and strong and looks much like seat belt material. Use is easy with a over center latch that tightens more when latched and includes a velcro lock strap to keep it latched.
I ordered three products for our boat: the 2’X13’ gunwale tie down, the pack of two 2’X4’ transom tie downs, and a 4” zinc-plated steel utility hook. I am very pleased with all of these products. They appear very sturdy and seem to be of good quality – not flimsy. I have bought cheap tie downs in the past and they start to fray or look weathered quickly and I get scared and replace them before they fail and leave my boat bouncing down the road. I have a 21 foot Skeeter boat and these tie downs kept everything securely in place – even on a VERY bumpy county road to our local lake. They are two inches wide and easy for me to handle. The release is very smooth and I didn’t have to pull and fight with it like you sometimes have to. The hooks seem very sturdy and I wasn’t worried about them failing. The utility hook is made of steel and is quite heavy. The spring action on the closure is very strong (but not so strong that I have to strain myself to push it in) and gives me confidence that it will stay secure. So far, I am very happy with this order.
The Ozark Trail gunwale tie down is convenient to use. Easy to hook up and the hook design keeps it from unhooking. Adjusts easily to tighten and secure your boat to the trailer during transport. The tie down is 2 inches wide, heavy-duty polyester webbing. It is a very generous 13 feet long. The construction reminds me of a super strong seatbelt. Buckles and hooks are coated to help prevent weathering and wear. The tag on the tie down recommends, for safety, that its working load limit is 400 pounds, which is pretty standard for most tie downs. Safety is always a concern when transporting a large watercraft. I feel this strap will ensure that safety, without a lot of extra hassle and worry, as we get ready to be out on the lakes this summer.
It's a good tie down to have for smaller lighter projects. I say this because of the hooks. If you use this for a heavt duty project the hooks will more than likely snap. It will be great to strap down a foot locker or a bike to a boat or vehicle or atv or ect.
