The pole is very solid and well made. It is a very medium pole. Rock Bass and most other smaller sun fish feel like you've caught some moss. This is a pole for bigger fish. Larger Bass or the like. The reel doesn't come pre-spooled. So you'll need to also buy some line if you don't have any. It's a pretty decent reel, 8 bearings and well made. Mine is kinda noisy, but i plan on oiling it. Might just be all those bearings. It's a smooth enough action, and feels very solid. I hope it last a long time.
Maybe not the top of the line but very good for the price.
this is a great fishing pole...everything you need to catch fish which i did...sturdy construction and smooth reel...i highly recommend!!!
very nice setup
This is a really good deal. 7' lightweight rod with a nice cork handle. I put about 150 feet of 8 lb test on it, put a sinker on the end and practiced in the back yard. It's not fishing season here so I wanted to get the feel of it. It casts out smoothly, the tip of the rod held firm and the action will be very good. It is a one piece rod just in case you like a two piece. This is a great rod for the casual angler, a good backup one for anyone who needs extra gear and a decent spare. For the price it's well worth it. I would recommend getting this.
Finally we got some nice weather. Tuesday we went to Vilano Beach and today St. Augustine Beach. This rod is very responsive. Every time a fish starts to nibble on my bait the rod responds very well. I was also able to cast out very far. Tuesday we got skunked but today the Whiting were biting. As you can see by the photos I was easily able to land these Whiting. Only concern I have with this setup is the rod is one piece. I realize now it would have been better if it came apart. Other than that great comb.
I bought this combo for reds and specks off a gulf coast dock. Spooled with 10lb mono and using a popping cork with shrimp lure. I usually fish with 2nd - 4th gen spinfishers, but wanted to try something new without investing a lot. The graphite rod has a great fling and feels very crisp after years of only using glass. The reel is much nicer than I expected. It came by mail with no blemishes. It's well greased from the factory and spins smoothly. If I could change one thing, I would move the hook keeper from below to above the reel seat. But at this price point I'm just glad to have a hook keeper at all. Overall, I think this combo is a great value. I have bought several other Ozark Trail rods and gear and am happy with all of it.
I expected this combination rod and reel to be a little more heavy duty but the combo works well. I've only used it for approximately an hour or two but it seems reliable enough. When the weather gets a little warmer I'll used it more and if I notice any deficiencies I'll update this review.
I immediately flipped the handle around for me. There are no springs or loose parts that pop out while taking apart. This is a very comfortable rod in the hand. The graphite rod is stiff, so it is a bit hard to set a hook. There's a nice hook keeper build in behind the handle to keep hook/bobber setup secure. The reel casts well and the bearings are smooth. The bailer responds well also. Also, the drag is easy to set and works well. It initially appears comparable to entry level Abu Garcia or Shimano brands. I did not care for the following attributes of the pole: It was heavy and very stiff. I was uncomfortable with the longer handle length also. It was several inches longer than my preferred handle length requiring me to change the way I usually cast. This might be an advantage or disadvantage to you. For the price, this is a fine value.
Rod and reel both came broken had to return because tip was snapped off! The guy that I talked to was nice about it and asked if I wanted my refund but anyways buy at your own risk
