From the first frame to the last, 'PacRim' produces a sumptuous array of visuals. The inky black levels of drift-dreams and the ocean floor drip in shadows, while the neon glow of Hong Kong cityscapes pop off the screen, giving the image an almost-3D quality. The wider color gamut is jaw dropping too; futuristic computer monitors hover in bold primaries, while the Kaijus are rich in their oozing pastels. I just can't get over how beautiful this movie looks. Talk about eye candy.

Fun movie at a good price
Pacific Rim is a fun, over-the-top sci-fi action movie, and this UHD Blu-ray is an impressive upgrade over the standard Blu-ray. While not perfect (it's a bit contrasty), the visuals are nevertheless stunning. Even better is the immersive, wall-rattling Dolby Atmos soundtrack, sure to give your sound system a serious workout. Walmart's price was lower than the competition, and they delivered it quickly.

THE mechs vs monsters movie to rule to them all.
UB820, Denon 3800, 7.2.4, LG C2. Picture quality on the 4k with HDR is crisp and pops with color. The inclusion of Dolby Vision would have been nice and i docked a single star for it. It is still a substantial upgrade over the 1080p bluray. Fine details in fabric, hair, mechs and kaiju design are easily visible. Black levels never seem crushed or blotchy. Audio stands out especially. More so than the visuals. The atmos mix really shines here. Excellent use of surrounds and height speakers really immerse you into believing you're witnessing these epic battles. The LFE channels will shake your house with every heavy footstep and explosion. The extras included add some fun behind the scenes moments, character design and commentary. If you've not seen Pacific Rim, i would call it an easy blind buy.
