Living in a suburban town, zoning laws restrict the size of outside buildings. We love to garden, especially starting our own plants with seeds saved from our own harvest. This greenhouse is absolutely a perfect size for all our expectations, not to mention the ease of construction.
We had this green, 6x8' greenhouse fully set up the same day that it was delivered. Although it was time consuming, it was no more difficult than we'd anticipated. We took our time after reading through all of the diagrams and did not try to skip any steps. It's quite sturdy with the addition of built-in raised beds, wood and wire shelves and a brick path. It was built on an existing cement slab. It's perfect for our needs and we are considering the purchase of a second. Actually, a friend saw it and after admiring it up close decided to order one for herself! We are really pleased with it and look forward to enjoying some home-grown, organic vegetables. Thanks, Hayneedle!
It was quite a job to put it together, but it was well worth the effort. We have had it through three Maine winters and it still looks like new. We put down a tarp and then crushed rock on the floor. It has served us very well. I love it. I would recommend it to everyone.
I put this up a couple of months ago, by myself, in about a day after I prepared the site. The kit is extremely well designed/ engineered. The instructions are comprehensive once you figure out the manufacturer's way of building this thing. It is amazingly sturdy and attractive. My wife, an avid gardener, is very pleased with the product. We have to open it up to keep the temp below 100 degrees during most days.
A very well made product, and looks great when finished. The instructions to build it were not very clear in certain sections, leading us to find the video on You-Tube in order to finish the build. Not all the parts are labeled, most are, but not all. Would help if ALL parts had an ID number. Lastly, their inspection crew should double check that ALL parts are included, as we were missing a critical cross bar, and had to wait 10 days to get it from back East.
I looked around quite a bit to find a good greenhouse within my budget. The Palram Mythos 6X6 filled the bill. I personally found it easy to assemble by myself in eight hours, not counting the time to make the shims, but it would have gone faster with a helper. It is absolutely essential that you get the base square and level within 1/16 inch 1/32 is even better. I mounted it on my deck which is not true, so I used my table saw to make "super shims" that are the whole length of the base, since the instructions advise against just supporting it on the corners. My sample was made in Israel, not China, which is reflected in the build quality. I only had to remove mold flashing from one plastic part for the door latch to get it to fit. There was repairable shipping damage. One metal part was bent but a bit of work with vise grips, anvil and my body hammer corrected the problem. I would have given the greenhouse five starts, but the door sags because there is no cross brace. Palram did provide extra nuts and bolts, so I'm going to fabricate my own cross brace for the door out of scrap steel I have on hand, similar to the braces found on the main structure.
I am a technical writer for operator and service manuals for large complex construction equipment. I have an engineering degree also. I think the assembly instuctions are geniously written using nearly only pictures. The only improvement would be a better latch on the door and roof vent, but I plan to make that change myself.
We are really happy with our Palram greenhouse. This is so much nicer than the 'tent' style one we had before and looks like it will last a very long time. Installation was not *that* hard, but if you are not handy then you should hire someone. Sliding the panels into the slots was made easier by spraying some Pam cooking spray into the slots first. Some of then can be really tight to slide in all the way.
I don't know how one person could put this thing together in 7 hours or less. It took 3 of us, 8 man hours each to get this thing up. I had my landscapers and myself to help. It was a bear to put together. However, the finished product is very nice and much more sturdy than you would think when first putting it together. I would secure it to 4x4 pressure treated lumber as a base and secure the lumber to the ground with the 4 stakes provided in the kit. You will need average tool skills to work with this product and it will require more tools than just the little nut placement wrench they provide. A Phillips screwdriver, hammer, rachet wrench and correct size socket(to put adequate torque on nuts and bolts), standard screw driver for moving things around are required. If you're going to secure it to lumber use the 2 1/2 or 3 inch sheetrock screws to screw down the base to the lumber and some 4 inch sheetrock screws to secure the lumber together. A power drill with Phillips attachment will save you a lot of effort. Over all, I gave it 4 stars because of the difficulty in assembly made it hard to give 5 stars.
It was a nightmare to assembled it. Pictures on the instruction are limited and so tiny that I had to put glasses on and still couldn't see anything. So we have to go by guessing. Took us two days and we're very good with assembling stuff.
