Follow manufacturer's recommendations
After purchasing a silent kitchen wall clock we learned that a heavy duty battery AA size was recommended to avoid damage to the quartz mechanism. I searched the local stores carrying batteries but none carry the heavy duty carbon zinc. A quick search on Walmart none were in stock but a supplier could fulfill our need from NY and send it to FL via UPS in a few days notwithstanding Hurricane Irma while we waited. Now it will be interesting to see how long one cell will last. Not the biggest problem solved but it was promptly. cmt33
