Fabulous movie. I would recommend it to anyone.
As ordered
Great movie.
I discovered this movie years ago and liked it. I had bought the VHS version but wanted to update to the DVD. As I watched, I had forgotten so much of it, it was as if I were viewing it for the first time. But the one thing I could NEVER forget is the CLASSIC suit Ormond wears when she returns home from Paris. As a fashionista who ADORES hats, the entire outfit is, well, classic. Black on black, with chic sunglasses and that hat (not the one on the cover, though), she looked LOVELY. And DON'T get me started on the velvet evening gown she wears with the bejeweled shrug. Very elegant. Sorry for the fashion report, but that's what I do. As to the movie, well, it stars Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond, and Greg Kinnear. Ormond plays the title character, who grows up with Ford's and Kinnear's characters, Linus and David Larrabee. She's the chauffeur's daughter, and their family's worth billions. Sabrina has a crush on David the Playboy, but he doesn't know she's alive. She's given a chance to go away to Paris to work, where she learns to value things other than her obsession with David. When she returns home, David's engaged, but, from first sight, he's infatuated with Sabrina—to the chagrin of Linus, who's in the works of a multibillion-dollar merger with David's fiancée's father. If David breaks things off with his fiancée, he'll ruin the merger, so Linus steps in to destroy their budding love affair. And that's where things begin to get REALLY interesting. I've seen the original with Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. I prefer this one. I like Bogie, of course, but (don't get mad) I've never been a fan of Hepburn. But if you liked the original, I think you'll find that this remake works well. Usually, when a black-and-white is remade, it RARELY hits the mark. Though this is modernized, the changes don't take away from the overall love story. (And when I say “modernized,” I mean “modern” for the time in which it was made, which was in the Nineties. I enjoy watching things that were made during this time because I find it amusing to listen to explanations of the Internet or, in this movie, flat-screen TVs and other things that were “cutting edge” back then. Today, we take all this stuff for granted. Most kids probably have NO CLUE that televisions were once impossibly heavy and bulbous in shape! Oh, and Cindy Crawford's “House of Style” is mentioned by Linus, and I wonder if anyone under the age of, um, 30 knows who she is. I can't think of any other “modern” mentions, but they're probably there. If so, and you watch this with your kids, have no fear—they'll point them out and make you feel unendurably old—just the way you made YOUR parents feel when their era's celebs or “modern marvels” (such as the 8-track tape!) were mentioned around you!) What it comes down to is this: If you like Old Hollywood's romance movies (which I do) or modern ones, such as “Sleepless in Seattle” (which I do), you'll like this “Sabrina” (which—you guessed it!—I do).
This is an up date from the original movie with Humphrey Bogart (which I also enjoyed). Loved this movie! One of Harrison Fords best for sure!! Greg Kinnear also makes this movie worth watching!
Remake of an old classic. Well done!
this version of Sabrina with Harrison Ford is better than the original
Great selection of films.
What more can you ask for in a movie!!!
