Passengers (Blu-ray)

Sony's 1080p AVC presentation, framed at 2.39:1 on a BD-50, is a superb example of modern high-definition mastering. The Avalon spacecraft's immaculate corridors, reflective surfaces, and elaborate interiors exhibit exceptional clarity and depth. Fine details in costumes, faces, and computer displays are sharply defined without obvious enhancement. Cool blues and silvers dominate the ship, while the warm amber bar and colorful holograms provide beautiful contrast. Black levels are deep, shadow detail is convincing, and the starfields retain a pleasing sense of scale. Compression noise and banding are rarely apparent. The 4K UHD adds HDR, but this is outstanding 1080p. The English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack (48 kHz/16-bit) is spacious, precise, and frequently powerful. The ship's engines and encounters with debris deliver substantial bass, while automated announcements, sliding doors, and electronic ambience create an immersive environment. Thomas Newman's expressive score spreads naturally across the front speakers and surrounds. Quiet dialogue is consistently clear, even as the film builds toward a turbulent final act. The mix contrasts vast, empty spaces with sudden mechanical chaos. French Canadian DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 are also provided. Unlike the 4K UHD, this Blu-ray does not include Dolby Atmos, but its lossless 5.1 track is excellent. All principal video supplements are presented in HD. Deleted scenes run nearly ten minutes, while Casting the Passengers (11 minutes) explores the performers and their characters. Creating the Avalon (10 minutes) examines the ship's ambitious production design, and Space on Screen (7 minutes) explains the visual effects. On the Set with Chris Pratt (4 minutes) offers behind-the-scenes footage, while Outtakes from the Set (4 minutes) adds humor. Book Passage (5 minutes) presents fictional advertisements for the voyage. These promotional pieces lack the depth of a substantial documentary or commentary. English, English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles are included. The disc is region-free; the original digital-copy code may no longer be valid. Morten Tyldum's Passengers blends romantic drama, isolation, and science fiction aboard an interstellar colony ship. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence bring chemistry to a visually captivating premise, with Michael Sheen memorable as the android bartender. The central moral dilemma raises provocative questions, although the film's increasingly conventional action finale weakens some of its dramatic potential. Sony's Blu-ray is nevertheless a technical triumph, pairing pristine imagery with engrossing lossless sound and a respectable assortment of extras. The 4K edition provides HDR and Atmos upgrades, but this standard Blu-ray remains an excellent choice for collectors and home-theater enthusiasts.

Did not come with the digital copy as stated it would in the question/answer comments. Just the Blue-Ray. Looks like some people get it and some dont as shown in the customer comments. Guess Im one of the unlucky ones.

This is an excellent movie! It's a story about hope, loss, love, despair and survival. I highly recommend watching Passengers 💙💙💙💙💙

it was wonderful!!!

I really wanted to like that movie and had high hopes for it, but watching it I couldn't believe how stupid the story is. How could anyone with such resources and great cast, have wasted such opportunity to make great movie?... Plot holes, nonsense after nonsense, including malfunctioning bartender, were just too much for me. I've been a long-time fan of sci-fi and I wonder what is going on in heads of all those Hollywood geniuses... Actors did a good job, effects were top notch, but stupid story kills the film.
