Patchwork Americana Family Board Game for Ages 8+, from Asmodee

Patchwork is our new favorite game! We have a large family of 7, and enjoy playing board games on a daily basis. I was really impressed with this game! So fun and different every time you play! It's a quilting themed game but you don't have to know anything about quilting to play. It's more like a mix between Payday and Tetris. The Americana theme patches and colors are beautiful, the pieces are nice quality (thick and sturdy!), and I know this will last a very long time. Game play is straight forward. It's a two player game, and the object of the game is to have the most points (buttons, or currency) minus the empty squares on your board at the end of the game. You take turns (the person behind always going first), choosing one of the three patches in front of the neutral pawn. You pay for your patch with buttons, place the piece on your individual board (quilt), move the neutral pawn to the open spot, and move your own pawn on the central board. Each patch is a different shape, coats a different number of buttons to purchase, has a specific number of moves, and has a different number of buttons it will pay you (zero to three). Every time you pass a button on the central board, it's like a payday- you count the number of buttons on the patches on your board, and you collect that many buttons! There's a lot of strategy to this game but it's not complicated at all. It's the perfect combination for a fun game for adults or kids of any age! All my children (ages 8 to 17) enjoy this game! You'll want to play this game on coffee table or kitchen table, and it doesn't take up any more space than any other board game. We have played this game multiple times every day for weeks now. It's always different and so much fun! There's nothing negative to note and nothing I'd change. This will be sure to stay our favorite for a long time! I would love to see this game expand for more players so we can all play at the same time. If you have any game lovers in your life, this would be an awesome gift!

this game is all about fitting shapes together. Simple rules and fast to learn. this would be a goid game to play with a child to learn graphing and spacial awareness. it also comes in holiday versions which I think is fun and will make good holiday gifts.

It took us nearly 30 minutes to get this game set up using the instructions. You are going to need a LOT of space. First, there are 2 quilts, and each of the two players gets a quilt. Next, there is the game board with a winding circle to the finish at the center. The Tetris shapes are supposed to go around this board. We did not have the room, so I made a small circle and we kept taking turns replacing the spot we took.... we made it work. Now, each player gets so many buttons. You buy pieces with buttons, earn buttons on "payday" spaces, and the goal is to have the most buttons and the fewest empty spaces. My daughter and I played it for nearly 45 minutes before she was the clear winner. We thought it was a LOT of fun. Strategy and bold moves are key. We wish there were more boards and 4 could play this game, but it is a great rainy day game for two.

This is a awesome game that includes new art and components inspired by the quilting communities of the United States. Also, this is a quite art game and not like other family game. You have to work to create a beautiful Americana-inspired patchwork by placing them on their 9x9 game board. I love the detail art game.

I have been a “quilter” and belong to a quilting club so this was the perfect game for me! I took this game to my quilting club and showed it to everyone and asked who was going to be playing it with me. In the end, it was decided a close friend would. We had so much fun with this game. This is a two-player board game and my friend and I competed to see who would create the prettiest quilt. We had everything we needed to strategize and make our quilts. Included with this game are 2 quilt boards, 2 time markers, 1 neutral token, 33 patches, 5 special patches, 1 special tile, 50 button tiles, and a rule book. This board game does take a good amount of time but it is fun, creative and so unique!

I received the board game I ordered. I picked this Patchwork Americana board game because I am a quilter and this board game looked like it was going to be interesting. I liked the bright Americana colors and designs on the game. I have played it a few times with the grandkids and it teaches them how to put a quilt together by not having to do any sewing. It's been great fun and not hard to play.

We think Patchwork Americana is a fun puzzle game, and really there is some strategy also! Even if you don't know anything about quilting (like me!), this is a fun game for 2 people. It requires a bit of table space when you set it up (we didn't know that when we first tried!). The pieces are made of sturdy cardboard, when you get the game you punch them out- they came out easily but we were careful not to tear them. Basically, you try to fill your 'quilt' with the different shapes. The person with the least amount of 'free squares' at the end wins! But the strategy comes in when you choose which pieces for your quilt (game board). You earn 'buttons' as you go along, and the buttons are traded for game pieces. You can save up your buttons for more valuable pieces- but if you do you only move one space and risk the other player getting your desired piece! I can say that the graphics on the instructions were good- it seems easy on paper but it took us a few rounds to get the hang of it. But once we got going we thought it was a pretty fun little game! It's not as hard as we made it out to be at first. Don't think too much about 'what it all means' lol. Other than the look of it, and the buttons and 'patches' it doesn't really have much to do with quilting lol! It's really almost like 'buying points' and knowing when to hold em' and when to fold em' so to speak, and trying to fill up the spaces on your 'quilt' board. It's actually really fun and the more you play it and understand it, the better you can get. Kind of like Uno, once you understand some strategy the game gets better and better. We think you'll enjoy it!

This game is only two player. At first I thought it would be really easy but it does take some strategizing and thinking ahead. Like chess or Tetris. A unique concept (quilt) for a strategy game. I would not play this all the time but it was fun to try.

I like that the Patchwork Americana Board Game is centered on the historical patchwork of sewing. My daughter and I had a fun time learning to play. It has very clear instructions and vibrant game pieces. It's is a compact game that easily stored away. Not complex to learn or play. This game is awesome when our electric/Internet went out as it can in handy to entertain my daughter. One thing I would caution: CAREFULLY pull the game pieces out from the pre-cut edges as some of my pieces “tore” or “ripped” off a small layer of the beautiful illustration.

When I received the game, all the pieces (in baggies in the photo) were on card s and needed to be pushed out. The pieces popped out easily and the cardboard they are made from is thick, so the pieces are not flimsy. I had never played this game before, and though I read the directions, I am pretty sure I did not play it the right way. I Googled how to play, and someone had created a video (not from the manufacturer) on how to play. It made it a little easier to understand but it still was not very clear. I brought this boardgame into work to play with my co-worker who likes quilting. She read the directions and did not quite understand either. Anyway, I would probably recommend this for older people who are part of a quilting club, or people who gather to play board games. Unless someone can teach a kid how to play, I do not think they would be able to understand the directions. Plus, it is only a two-player game. Also, I used zip bags to store the pieces. A container or a pouch to put the pieces in would be helpful. It is fun, sorta like Tetris.
