Gets rid of cowbirds and blackbirds!

John May 19, 2026

I've been looking for seed that cowbirds and blackbirds don't like because they empty my feeder in a day. These safflower seeds did the trick. While they're too expensive for me to buy all the time, I will buy occasionally. The finches and sparrows love it, but they eat through it pretty quickly too. Good stuff!

Safflower is NOT for Squirrels

Trav March 24, 2026

This is one of the best options available for pure safflower seeds. I use it to keep my birds happy and keep the squirrels away - squirrels don't have any real interest in this seed type but songbirds all enjoy it, haven't lost a single songbird but squirrels rarely even come up to look at it. This will save you a lot of money feeding the squirrels! I think my only request would be to come up with a bigger value sized bag, say 10 or 15 lbs would be great.

Songbirds everywhere!

Tonya April 1, 2026

My songbirds love the safflower seed. Grackles are supposed to hate this food but I have one who will suffer through it anyhow as if he can't find food somewhere else. It's said the mourning doves aren't big fans but they park their butts on my feeders and suffer through it too but mostly my cardinals choose this one over the basic mixes I keep in other feeders. My finches enjoy it as well. Yes, my birds. I have a yard full of songbirds in my trees and bushes so they eat better than we do on the house most of the time. If you want to bring in the cardinals, this is the food for you to do it with!

Trying to keep the blackbirds away!

Anonymous May 7, 2026

Put this out this morning in one of my feeders, trying to get the blackbirds from coming, heard they do not like this. So far good, cardinals are coming to the feeder, did not see any blackbirds at the feeders! Still saw a few blackbirds in the trees come and go. The cardinals seem to really like it! There were also a few finches and a morning dove, so hope the blackbirds get the message and move on!

Bird food not for squirrels.

David November 1, 2025

I have had problems with squirrels tearing up my bird feeder and I heard they don't like safflower seed. I purchased the safflower seed and the birds love it and the squirrels don't. Great product!

Bought this to discourage starlings, grackles, and squirrels who were eating all the bird seed and scaring other birds away. Pricy but it works cardinals are back.

No junk seed with this

frantic1049 April 17, 2026

I used to use safflower seed in my feeders because I was told that squirrels don't like it. Well mine got used to it pretty quickly. I really don't like the bird see mixes that are mostly millet and red milo so I got a bag of this to mix with some other feed that I have. Bird seed has really gotten expensive so I wanted something that the birds would actually eat and not throw on the ground like the milo. The feeders empty very quickly with the cheap seeds that end up on the ground under the feeder.

ok but a lot of stems/sticks

SLee April 22, 2026

The only thing just like their sunflower seeds it has sticks in it that I have to hand pick out which is a pain in the butt so it won't clog up the feeders. I've gotten really bad sticks wood and dust in the sunflower seed bags but they also had bug hole eaten out of them just hope it doesn't get that bad with the safflower seeds but there are a lot of stems or sticks.

Squirrels eat this! Not what I want!

Julia March 31, 2026

I buy safflower seed because squirrels don't like it, however they like this seed brand. If you don't want squirrels try a different brand. It's not cold out so I don't know why they eat this and not the multiple walnuts in my yard. Tells me it's not a white safflower. Squirrels will eat golden safflower seed.

Full of hulls and sticks

ImpulseShopper88 May 18, 2026

These seeds were full of hulls, sticks, and dirt. The birds want nothing to do with this seed. I would have returned, but i threw the packaging away by mistake.
