I've had this feeder up for close to a month and the squirrels seem to be able to get to the seed and I've yet to see a single bird there, altho that could be due to squirrel activity. So therefore, I definitely don't see this. as squirrel resistant.
I bought so squirrel would stop stealing seed, but my parrots I think have small beaks. So they don't get to enjoy. But all other birds do.
I own a lot of bird feeders. I have yet to get one bird to come to this feeder. Positive- the feeder is always full w seed. Negative - don't buy if you want to attract birds:(
Really like the ease of filling and size of the seed tube. It took awhile to get used to the seed tube coming down and out (vs. opening the top for filling) but it's definitely going to make cleaning so much simpler. I was concerned about the light weight of the tube container but it made it through the winter and it's hanging in there with heavy winds. Will order another when it's time to replace one of our other feeders.
The squirrels really enjoy this squirrel proof BIRD feeder
We a huge assortment of birds of all sizes and shapes. Very few, guesstimate of 15%, of our guests could eat from this feeder. Additionally the squirrel proof top was anything but that. They took it right off. They were the only ones that used this feeder. Don't waste your money.
It came w/a broken off bottom side piece of one of its tubes bottom container lock areas. It was half wrapped in some unimpressive brown paper, the tubes bottom lid wasn't fastened @ all/it hasn't any directions on how to remove or fasten the main bottom tube lid. The metal frame is okay, the concept of feeding 12x birds @ x is a good idea. However, its hard clear plastic tube is of poor quality, to inflexible/leaves much 2 be desired. In terms of quality service time of lasting 6 months - 1 year or more, this inflexible plastic tube will crack, split, break off/won't stand the test of time, in my view!
I went with this brand thinking it knew how to design a bird feeder. Only little wrens and finches visit it and seem to have trouble getting into the tiny openings to retrieve the seed. I have black oil sunflower seeds and some shell-free peanut/sunflower mix. The larger birds like cardinals and blue jays have difficulty landing and grabbing onto the squirrelproof wire. They try a few times, grab a seed maybe, fly off, and give up after a few unsuccessful attempts. That's disappointing. But the squirrels have yet to figure out how to eat from it, so that's a good thing. It also holds a lot of seed, another plus, but that wire cage though...
Direct size and product replacement for one that finally rusted out after 6 years, which probably would have lasted for many more if we periodically cleaned out any damp/wet seed at the bottom. This bird feed design works for bird sizes from chickadees to red-bellied woodpeckers. Can't comment on being squirrel proof as we have a pole guard which keeps them away.
Love the feeder. Not squirrel proof. If you have smart squirrels please use the provided screws to screw the lid in place. Our squirrel figured out how to screw the lid off. Hoping using the provider screws and screwing the lid down our squirrel won't be able to remove the lid. Otherwise you may get a bird stuck in the feeder like us.
