Just took out of the box, went to put it through the ear and the stub that goes in the ear broke, what should i do. i order it last july

So they are beautiful but I bought a pair as a gift to someone and I held in the box it arrived in when I gave them they hard tarnished so bad they looked like garbage was so disappointed.
