Works Great

StewK November 22, 2018

We used this to restrict the range / movement of our two cats. Once installed in the yard, some tweaking of the settings on both the master unit and the collars, it all came together. We try to be outside with them when possible but they have been doing well on their own also. Who would have thought??

amazing product!

Susan Harrison April 5, 2014

Before buying this system I did my share of on-line research, and there seemed to be some controversy over whether systems like this one are safe and effective for cats. My experience has been 100% positive. The system was easy to set up, with the wires running at the top and bottom of our wooden fence. The collar was comfortable enough even for my rather fussy cat. Best of all, the cat learned quickly and fairly painlessly not to climb the wooden fence --- after having been an intractable wanderer in a neighborhood that (like most) is full of dogs, speeding cars, and other lethal hazards. Here are some things I didn't know until I tried it: (1) The lowest 'static correction' setting, 2, is barely as much of a shock as you get from touching your car door or your cat's nose on a dry day. Yet that very mild level of shock (not even enough to make a human say ouch) was enough to get my cat's attention. (2) The warning beep sounds about ten seconds before the 'static correction.' Once having learned to associate the beep with the shock, which took him only about two times, the cat now consistently moves away from the fence in response to the beep -- without receiving any further shocks. (3) The 'boundary radius' has a range of adjustment levels, which in my case translated into roughly 6 inches to two feet. A setting of 7, or about a foot and a half, was necessary to keep the cat from making his usual flying leap onto the wooden fence. (4) The recommended training method involving a leash and flags did not work for us. I might be wrong, but I don't think cats learn like that! What worked in our case is that the boundary corresponded to an obvious physical barrier (the wooden fence), and the training just reinforced that there was something scary about crossing that barrier. The cat is happily playing in the back yard as this is being written, and I'm very pleased with the freedom this product has given us to keep letting him go out there.

In-Ground Cat Fence

Cindy33 August 13, 2023

I have two cats and my backyard leads right into a very wooded area. I didn't want my kids to be able to go into the woods and be harmed by larger animals, harm animals, smaller than them like mice and things, and to just overall keep them safe. It has worked amazingly. I've had it for over a year. When I first put it in, I had to adjust the collar because the lowest settings didn't seem to bother one of my cats and he would just leave the area. I have them at a four out of five and he never leaves anymore. I put the other collar on three and that cat never leaves either. My cats are very smart and go outside through the doggie door and walk the perimeter to make sure they hear the warning beep (to test if the fence is working). I lost power to the house one day for an entire day and forgot about the fence needing to have power and let them out and they left the fenced area. Now they check every time they are out which makes me laugh at how smart they are. I know I read someone said you can just put a regular collar on them once they are trained but mine are too smart for that. I put a collar on them the mornings that are nice out and when I know I will have the doggie door unlocked. I just wish it came with individual remotes so I could train the cats inside the house as well. That way I could give them a warning beep (and sock as a last resort) when they try to scratch furniture, jump on the kitchen table, etc.. I think they are smart enough to learn that way as well. I did see they have training collars, but the last thing I wanna do is put two collars on them. I tried going into the website to do a live chat, and they have a glitch in their system and it doesn't let you complete the form and submit it. So I have not been able to reach out to ask if they have this item available or planned on having that added to the in-ground cat fence package. I still would highly recommend for anyone who wants to contain their cats and keep them in a safe area. Both cats were only “zapped” once, and it seem to be more of a scare than anything painful. I shocked myself to verify as I would not want to harm my animals, and it does really just scare you. It wasn't as painful as you may think it is. I would not harm my animals on purpose in case you were worried about this product.

Worked for my cat!

Picklesmom November 4, 2022

My neighbor was complaining about my cat coming into her yard and hunting birds. He has too much energy to keep inside and was always escaping when we tried. I was very skeptical that this would actually work, but it did. Installing the fence was pretty straight forward. We do not have a physical fence like some people say is required. I watched lots of videos before I ever ordered it which was very helpful in planning where it would go. My husband ordered an edging attachment for our weed eater which made the job easier. We got bags of dirt to bury the line. Training didn't exactly go by the book because he's a cat, but I would just carry him at first to the flags around the yard and let him hear the beeping for a couple of days. When wearing his harness, he just flopped himself down and laid there, so I would throw the end of the leash to get him to chase it near the line to feel the correction and then pull him back. Eventually, I had to just let him off the leash and let him just go. He crossed over twice. The first time, he just stopped, and I went and got him. The second time, he kept running. I just unplugged it and waited for him to come back. Each time I increased the correction level. I'm happier, my neighbor is happier, and my cat my not be happier, but is safer!!

Best thing for our cats!

laurar January 8, 2022

This is the best thing we've ever done for our cats! They can enjoy the outdoors and be safe! We have had this system installed for about 15 years - 3 cats all of the time and not one has escaped! We have it installed top and bottom along our fence and it has to cross a small piece of our yard in one spot. We live in an area with significant snowfall - the second year the snow resulted in the lower wire breaking - we have since put the lower wire through black sprinkler piping to protect it. The wire works through this piping. It also works when snow covered. Super happy we did this for our cats! Customer service is also excellent!

not worth the money

Btaylor0521 October 4, 2022

I bought this product about a month ago and it worked fine for first two weeks. kept the cats in the back yard and out of the garden. but the cats have learned that if they run right through the barrier, they are free. I dug a a double loop barrier and kept it between 3-5 feet apart as instruction said. also the cats started on level two and now at level 5 and it doesn't seem to bother them

Disastrous

Marie64 January 5, 2024

I'm broken hearted. We've had the system for a little over a year and thought it was working well. Recently we noticed the cats over the boundary, and although the system said the loop was closed, and with new batteries in the collars, there was no beep or static when I test the collars at the fence line. We kept them in until I rewired today, tested, everything worked! Left my two beautiful kitties out for an hour, called them and only one returned. I tested her collar again and to my dismay, no beep and no static despite an apparent closed loop. A little later I found my other sweet kitty, she had been fatally hit in the road.. I am so sad.
