Wake gently to increasing brightness starting before set alarm time. The light changes from a soft reddish tone to brighter yellow. If you don't fully awaken, there is a choice of audible alarm, such as soft gong, birdsong, other soothing noise at actual alarm time. turn off by touching alarm icon on face of clock. I am extremely nearsighted, need to put on glasses to touch correct icon or set the clock. The time is not bright or disturbing when trying to sleep. Includes relax cycle of sunset or breathing rhythm to lull you to sleep.
This may actually be one of the best things I own. It looks great and works well. The light is unbelievable. I love how the sunset and sunrise works. I love the sounds that have been chosen. I have had no issues so far and would recommend this to anyone. If you have trouble falling asleep - this will help you tremendously. If you have to get up in the middle of the night - the night light is excellent. I have nothing negative so say about this. The overall design is perfect.
You pay a lot for this but it is worth it for me. There are only a few additions I would request in the next version. 1) An option for the actual alarm sound to increase gradually over 5 minutes or so. Example. Start very low/soft and slowly increase every 30 sec or so until max after 5 min. 2) Paying this much for a clock I would want update potential though usb or similar, as in more wake sounds or further issues that could be fixed in firmware. 3) current speaker is fine, but I would always reach for clearer sounds, and more life-like ambient sounds. ( again current is decent but there is room for improvement ) 4) if you could make light increases/decreases more refined and less noticeable, and the same for the sound. ( current is fine, but could always be improved ) For me the light levels on the display are good, the cheaper somneo was too amber colored for me and i sent back for this one. Keep up the good work.
I am not a morning a person. Let me begin by saying that I have 2-hours worth do alarms on my phone. Or rather 2 hours snooze window. I just am not able to easily wake up in the morning and have come to accept that. So with thy in mind, my expectations for this product we're very low. It looks very pretty and it definitely looks amazing on my night stand, but I was very hesitant about how useful it will be for me. However, I was in for a surprise! Day one- I was up within couple minutes of the daylight going in and the alarm sounding (I chose the monk bells as most pleasant to me, yet enough to wake me up). I thought was interesting, but also not too surprising since I do tend to wake up more easy if I set up a new alarm sound. Then Day 2 - I was up and early within minutes again. This continued to Day 7, Day 14.. I realized that I ama cyually worri d if I'll be able to wake up on time for my out of town meetings, so I brought the Philips Somber with me to New York and had it on my nightstand. I am not sure how I would've dealt with the time difference and having to wake up even one hour earlier than I normlalky wood, if I didn't had it with me! It helped me up and bright even on a gloomy and dark morning! And not only that, but I also wake up in a good mood! I received this product for testing, in exchange for my honest review - but am definitely a believer now. This is by far the best thing I've discovered this whole year! And I love it! It will definitely not leave my side. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The simulated sunset is very calming. It lasts about five minutes, during which the lamp gradually darkens and the ocean wave sounds gradually fade away. The sunrise feature is nice too, should I wake early I may see the room dimly lit with yellow light that very gradually brightens over a period of 30 minutes until the set alarm time when the selected alarm sound begins. The FM radio is very sensitive with good sound quality. I haven't tried the Breathe to sleep feature. The midnight light is turned on and off by just tapping the top of the lamp. The cell phone charger feature works fine. A minor design flaw is the FM antenna wire exits the lamp body without any strain relief.
I feel like I wake up more gently, and start my day feeling more refreshed. My only complaint about the Sleep light is that the speaker is poor quality for the price. Not a huge deal, but it's why I took away one star. All in all, I'm glad I took the chance on this product.
The Philips Somneo Sunrise Light is a good choice for a multi-function alarm clock, radio, and therapy light. The device, which I received as a free sample to use for this review, has a modern, fashionable design that looks great on my nightstand. The primary feature is a morning `wake up` alarm clock that gradually fills your room with light from the display over a period of time. When it reaches your desired wake up time, the device plays your choice of sounds: FM radio, sounds from a device connected via the aux jack, or a choice of calming nature sounds. I was initially hesitant that the combination of nature sounds and a light would wake me up in the morning, as I`m a heavy sleeper. However, I found that the sunrise wake-up feature was incredibly calming and effective. Instead of jarring you awake as would an alarm, the device fills the room with light, just like the sun would streaming through a bedroom window. I found myself starting my morning more refreshed and satisfied. My favorite feature is the night-light feature. Tapping the top of the device produces a soft, red light that is excellent for seeing in a darkened bedroom. I also appreciate the inclusion of a USB port for charging, and an auxiliary jack for sounds. I can charge my iPhone while playing music through the headphone jack. There are a few features that I would like to have seen improved. First, while the lamp itself is incredibly bright when on its highest setting, the clock display is very dim and somewhat difficult to see at night. The device also doesn`t have any physical buttons. To change settings (for example, in order to set the alarm) you must tap through a touch display. However, the menu can be somewhat confusing, and it takes several prompts to set up your desired sounds, brightness, and alarm time. It would have been easier to press a button to instantly set an alarm, rather than clicking through multiple menus using the touch screen. Despite these small flaws, I recommend this product if you are looking for a wake-up light to brighten your mornings.
I received this clock pro bono for an honest review. My Western location and Eastern schedule is such that I've been considering a wake-up light for some time now. So here we go! Pros: -Wind down feature -Relaxing rhythmic breathing guide -Beautiful transition of color and light simulating sunrise/sunset -USB port for device charging -Decent speaker for playing music (through AUX port...) Cons: -No wireless or bluetooth connectivity -Navigating through the menu can be confusing and tedious. -User interface is not very intuitive The Wind Down feature is my absolute favorite. You can choose from a few nice natural sounds and control the sunset effect to quickly and easily get you off to sleep--I'm always very excited to launch this feature. Waking up is just as amazing. I found myself not setting the audible alarms and simply waking to the sunrise effect gently and consistently. The alarms themselves are nothing special: 5 second loops of sounds better given 10 seconds of recording time. Overall this is a fantastic little device if you either wake-up at an ungodly hour as I do, or sleep in a space with insufficient natural light. If I could offer any advice to the Phillips Somneo product team it would be to add wireless connectivity and develop an app to fully manage the device. Interacting with this clock seems archaic.
Very few options to configure the few available sounds. Awful commands; they are difficult to figure what they are for unless you memorize the Manual. Configuration control very confusing; icons design and resolution terrible. In a colorful and high resolution era those icons resemble the ones used in the 90's. Snooze command are hard to use and often doesn't function as expected. Not worth the price, would be a good product if were in $50 range. Stay away, or you will regret buying.
Bought this for my wife for Christmas and set it up. Didn't seem to work properly. Alarm wasn't the sound we selected, and control buttons we're sporadically coming and going to where we finally gave up and set up a return. She was excited to try this but said directions were horrible, and for the way it preformed, it wasn't worth the price.
