[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Spoiler: The smart phone app linked to the shaver will help you find the proper technique to a fantastic shave.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I'm in my 40's and I've never learned how to properly use an electric razor until I used this Philips Norelco Shaver 7100.
I have sensitive skin and thick, quickly growing facial hair. Every time I tried to use an electric shaver in the past, I get one good shave followed by a week of irritation, so naturally I avoided them. Until now. This shaver has a lot of bells and whistles I'll leave it to the box to brag about that content. It is also really cool in how it looks and moves. But, the best feature for me was the one I though was the least important… the Bluetooth connectivity to a smart phone app.
Let me set the stage. I tried shaving the way I thought it worked. I tried it dry, I tried it wet, I tried it with shaving cream, in the shower, etc. with all methods, I experienced mild irritation. So, I read the manual and it said to try it for 21 days until my face got used to it. But, I'm impatient. After 7 days, I looked up how to pair the shaver to my phone. From that day on, my world has been different. This is the best electric shaver I've used and I am amazed at the results.
By pairing it to a phone, you get tips and real time feedback on your shaving motion. I never knew small, light, circular motions were the way to avoid irritation. But this knowledge was not enough. Without having a proper reference, I never found out what the proper technique was. So having the feedback proved to be the fastest way to understand what motion was wrong. The first shave was good but according to the app, I shaved too long and had a fairly bad motion. The second shave, my motion improved and I was within the time line. Now, I can actually tell when I slip back to the old habits because when you shave properly, you don't feel a single pull on the hair, it just gets cut away and leaves a smooth face.
