I debated whether or not to purchase this product. Would I use it or would it join several other small appliances gathering dust on a shelf? After a couple of times using it I can say it won't just sit on that shelf! I even purchased the additional disc sets! I have used it often and been very pleased with the pasta, it really tastes great and I know exactly what is in it! It is so easy to use and the pasta is done before the water comes to a boil. And I can get the machine parts clean, very easily, before the pasta is done! I have made lasagna, penne pasta salad, and, of course, spaghetti (both regular and angel hair) and linguine. With or without eggs, all-purpose or whole wheat! All with great results! If you love pasta as I do, this is the perfect appliance to add to you kitchen counter. And, yes, you'll want it on the counter and not on a shelf or in a cabinet, as you'll be using it that much.
We are really happy with the quality of the machine and most importantly, the pasta it churns out. We have had other pasta makers many years ago but the gears were plastic and easily broke and the machines did not last. This one is metal and much stronger and the footprint is small! The pasta mix was deceiving at first - it looked very dry but the result is really good. Still experimenting with recipes.
[Employee of philipsglobal] I am a real foodie and I love using this pasta maker to make my own pasta at home and experimenting with different flavours and shapes. It's really easy to use, just put the ingredients in the top and it does the rest for you. I enjoy having control over what goes into my food and knowing I can make a fresh healthy meal for myself and my partner, and this pasta maker helps me to do that!
Excellent product, very sturdy and well made. Makes excellent gluten-free pasta (1 x cup of Doves plain flour, less 2 x Tbspn and then replace this with 2 x Tbspn of polenta); you do need additional liquid and a couple of teaspoons of oil doesn't harm it. Don't forget to add something like xanthan gum or Isobel's fixer. Whole family loved it.
The system is easy to use. The only downside is not attachments for make elbow macoroni or some other common pastas.
I bought this a couple of years ago, it worked well. But a few days ago the mixing chamber lid was broken, I don't know where I can buy the replacement. Thank you so much and happy holidays!
Just follow the instructions and within 30 minutes home made pasta is extruding. You can make different kinds of pastas (whole wheat, egg, flour, semolina, etc.), and clean-up is easy. Extruded pasta is not my favorite pasta, but this machine does a very good job. My only complaint, and this is why it gets a good rating and not excellent, is that you are limited in what you can make. The bigger machine offered by Phillips has more disks, providing a wider range of the type of pasta you can make. As of now, a year after I purchased this machine, there are still no new disks, and the disks are not interchangeable with the other models, so you can not buy the others that are offered with the other models.
I find the pasta maker very easy to use, and have not had any issues making a variety of pastas. Besides being easy to use, it is easy to clean as well. The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars is I would have liked it to include more shaping disks, rather than having to buy the additional ones separately. I would also love if Phillips made a wide noodle disk. I make lots of dishes that call for wide flat noodles and would love to use this machine for those dishes. But after all is said and done, this was a good purchase. I am very happy with the unit despite its limitations. BTW, it is very well made, heavy and sturdy. I expect it to last a VERY long time.
Pros - easy to use, makes pasta relatively quickly (once you're used to it and have read through the instructions/familiarised yourself with the machine, fun and different. good to use with kids I imagine (as the recipe for pasta is incredibly simple and cheap). A good novelty product for those wanting to explore making such a popular dish. Easy to clean too, as most of the parts are dishwasher safe. Recipe booklet has lots of variety. Cons - really too much faff to make what is a convenience dish for some. It's far too easy to just buy a bag of fresh pasta and cook it within 10 mins. Pasta thickness can't be adjusted, you only have the shape attachments and if you've not got quite the right consistency it goes horribly wrong! Though, you can purchase additional shape attachments. It's also most definitely a novelty product, not an essential appliance and is definitely something you can have in your house if you have the space, but in no way something you need. Price tag is relatively high, too.
Made a perfect pasta. Each 200g flour make approx 1/2 lb. can't believe how quickly it makes it. Clean up was a bit of work. So many nooks and crannies the dough sticks in.
