We have been overrun by yellow jackets since w moved to Alaska. We read reviews in these and decided to try them. They are awesome! Within a few days we caught hundreds and hundreds of these annoying creatures. For some reason walmart.com only let's you buy 4 at a time. We've now made 3 separate orders to get 12. They are that good. Reviews we read said to put 1/3 cup or so of Mountain Dew in the trap,so that's what we tried. Easy peasy. If you are being overrun with these horrible things, do yourself a favor and get a bunch of these traps and put them all around.
This yellow jacket and wasp trap has exceeded my expectations. I purchased it to keep my dogs from being stung in the backyard as we had many yellow jackets and wasps. I hang it onto a shepherds hook in the corner of my yard, and fill it with Mtn. Dew (not diet) to the bottom edge (roughly 1 cup). It has also attracted flies and moths. The trap has 4 openings. Two on the top level and two on the bottom, through which the yellow jackets, wasps, and other potential insects, climb through and ultimately drown in the liquid (Mtn. Dew in my case). When the level of liquid within the trap is low and no longer sufficient for drowning insects, one simply can remove the top by twisting it off and either immerse or fill the trap with hot water to drown any potentially living insects, upon which the contents can be dumped out. The instructions recommend using the trap in early spring to catch the fertile queen and prevent the creation of a nest. I have used it throughout the summer and fall with great success.
Wasps love Great Value Apple Juice and Wasps love Sugar. I pour in apple juice and a heaping teaspoon of sugar. It attracts them like a magnet. Now here is what you need to keep in mind....DON'T put this wear you sit. I hung and it is hanging up on my balcony because that end of my house seems to get wasps flying around all day and that makes it impossible for me to enjoy my balcony. I have had this thing hanging for a few days and it has at least 40 wasps in it. So what I have discovered is I need to hang this a bit away from my balcony. That way the wasps go to it instead of my balcony. IF you over fill it the wasps may swim out and if you let it get too full of wasps like I did, you might spot an escape artist. The best thing to do because in reality anyway, it doesn't hold much liquid at a time, is to 1. Put apple juice and sugar in it 2. Hang it a little bit away from where you socialize 3. Empty and refill very frequently 4. Put it out at the first signs of Spring and maybe it will capture the queen and they'll all go to your neighbors house HAHA! Great product.
This trap is a very effective way to rid your yard of yellow jackets. There is no need to buy any bait tablets or poison. Just pour about a 3/4ths can of regular Mountain Due soda (not diet) into the bottom of the trap, hang it up, and they will crawl in and drowned. I had about 30 dead yellow jackets in it after the first day. I would definitely recommend this trap. It really works.
Bought two, one for me and one for a neighbor 3 houses down the road (country). We have tried coke and beer (in his) and Sprite Zero and pink lemonade in mine and everything we have used works fantastically. I am going to order three more.
Worked great!! After ordering in the fall I read the instructions %26 apparently it's best to order in spring. Still caught a lot of yellow jackets even in the fall. I put wet cat food %26 flat orange soda (had no juice) in as bait %26 it worked great. Will order more in the spring.
Mt. Dew soda attracts best. Use in Spring to try and get the Queen before breeding. Hang in area around foliage works better. Messy but simple to clean.
it caught more ants and flies than wasps.
I have a huge wasp problem at my home in my yard. After years of spraying chemicals and running for my life I decided to try something different. I thought this was the answer to my prayers although I realized it was no cure all solution. If I could just capture some I would be happy! I purchased 3 and immediately set them out. Followed the directions to a T. After a few hours I finally had one. An hour later I checked and found that it had gotten out of the trap. They do not drown no matter how much liquid is in the trap! The wasp seem to have no problem navigating their way out and now I simply have wasp feeders in my yard doing the opposite of what I had intended. At $10 a piece I would say save your money and stick to the spray.
I thought that because the ratings were good, this product would be great. They have been up 2 weeks, not one wasp AND, I bought attractant to put in it after the first week, still nothing. I saw several wasps fly right by them though!
