Excellent bass boost and easy install! I paired this with Pioneer head unit and pioneer speakers in my truck. The controller makes it easily adjustable. It sets behind the driver's seat perfect! Adding this is a real game changer. Not over bassy and the highs are really good too. Lots of power!
My personal musical tastes do not require a ton of bone shattering bass, i am more about the vocals, so i do not require excessive attention to bass. Not to say i don't growl at the double bass drums and drops of speed/death metal because yes, i do. This gave me enough to growl at while not drowning out vocals and guitars. We put it into the older Beamer 325i being repaired which has nothing but a basic system that came in it from the previous owner. Well by we i mean my son. I have not put in speakers or subs or head units in a vehicle since my 20's, it's his turn to do the detail work. It is pretty much the same as i remember but this one has a controller at arms reach. It definitely improves the whole sound and adds enough bass for me. When my son uses this car he will change the settings…a lot, to be deeper. It's not overpowering but amplified more tones to expose that the front left speaker needs replacing, of course…that's what a project daily does as you improve it. I am pleased with it. Not overbearing while improving the existing sound quality a good amount.
I have been listening to Pioneer since the "SuperTuner" days in the 70's, the sound from this subwoofer is outstanding, I would expect nothing else from Pioneer. Installation is easy, everything is in this kit, harness, manual/directions and some hardware, if you are looking for the controller like I was, don't panic, it is on the other end of the box behind the styrofoam, it's hidden if you don't open the box from that side. The price on this subwoofer is beautiful considering what you get in return, great sound.
I ordered the Pioneer TS-WX400DA with the intention of installing it under the seat of a GMC Sierra crew cab truck. I have a Kicker Hideaway in my Wrangler Unlimited that I am happy with, but I've always been a Pioneer person. I have a Pioneer head unit in the truck so I jumped at the chance to get this. First impression was that it is significantly lighter than the Hideaway while being bulkier and almost an inch thicker in height. It was just thick enough that it would not fit under the front truck seat. I will have to mount it under the rear seat which could cause issues when the seat is flipped up to carry large items. Install was a breeze since the head unit has RCA outputs and the remote bass control made for an easy setup. As for the sound, it is ok but not impressive considering it is nearly $500. For comparison, the Hideaway is $300, only trails by 2 db in loudness according to the specs, and has a 25hz lower range (better bass range for the non-techies). The Pioneer has 100w more power for a total of 250w so it isn't exactly a wimpy unit, but…. Overall it has a decent sound and had I not had the other brand to compare it to side by side, I might have a different opinion. It's a powered subwooofer, not a custom enclosure with a huge amp, so keep your expectations realistic. It is not going to rattle your windows but adds more of a complimentary sound. Given how expensive this model is though, Pioneer may have priced themselves out of this category given the competition. However, if you're just wanting to add a fuller sound to your existing system without a lot of hassle, this will work for you.
