I was having the same overheating error codes which was very frustrating. I took the time to read the manual closely and realized I needed to remove the heat deflector from the hopper and place it on the bottom inside the still. After that it has been working perfectly.
Great value smoker. Bought preassembled from Walmart so i don't have any experience trying to set it up. People say the entire cooking area isn't functional but it is.
just bought this January 17th of 2020 Love it only took me approximately 1 hour to put it together everything fell right into place had no screws or washers left over Don't know what these people are talking about by having problems but it was a breeze used it on January 18th Love it works great would definitely recommend to anybody and everybody The one thing that you have to remember is the digital display and the thermometer on the door is going to be totally different you have to regulate it yourself and figure out the temperatures also read the manual it will definitely help you happy barbecuing
I haven't opened the box and haven't put it together yet. I am in the process of moving. The fun part was the ordering, it shipped and I received the email to pick it up, when I went to pick it up, I received a 12 inch x 12 inch x 1 inch box. I told the check out person that their was in no way that was the smoker. It was only the vinyl cover. So, they ordered a replacement smoker, and I received it in about a week.
I've had this smoker for a month now and i have done a brisket, beer canned chicken, ribs, burgers and even a pizza and everything came out amazing. If you know how to follow directions and have patience this smoker works just fine. Is there flaws of course not well insulated the temperature does bounce around quite a bit but never any issues as to food under cooking or over cooking since you have a built in food probe to use to tell you the meats temperature and readiness. The food comes out flavorful and amazing every time. Works for me.
Found locally for $99.99... Great deal! However, blew the internal fuse in first 5 minutes. Customer service was awful! Almost returned! I replaced bad "hot rod" and fuse at my expense. Only buy Pit Boss on sale! Buy Traeger or other good quality smoker if you must pay full price.
Absolute piece if crap I gave it the benefit of a doubt as most people only post negative reviews instead of positive. But really, piece of junk. Even on sale. Buy something better. The holes dont line up. So i thought no big deal. But really it is a big deal. You will bend things in ways they shouldnt be bent. And good luck placing all the screws. Absolute piece of junk
Unboxed and put it together. Book said to do a burn off session by turning the smoker on the highest setting for 30-40 minutes. I did that. This was the first time this smoker was ever turned on. Within 10 minutes the smoker had shut itself off with an error code flashing ER-H. A look inthe book tells me that it had overheated. Troubleshooting guide basically said it was because the smoker had not been cleaned from previous uses....well it had never been used so. I tried to use it on 3 different occasions. The first was a small pork loin. I set the smoker on 225 and it should have been done in 4 hours. The actual temp was all over the place, anywhere between 185 and 350. It could not hold a temp remotely close to what it was set on. Not only that the round temp gauge at the top was consistently 75 degrees lower than the âactual tempâ on the digital readout was showing. We then tried a Boston butt. Set at 225 and the hopper was full and the entire smoker including the burn pot freshly cleaned (as the book says to do to prevent overheating and grease fires) It overheated and shut itself off anyway. I restarted it and it ran for maybe an hour it threw another error code ER-L, which was not listed in the book but I quickly discovered the hopper, which was not empty, just had no pellets falling into the auger. So i assumed ER-L meant low hopper. I put a few more pellets in and restarted it only to have it overheat once again and by then I was afraid the meat would have been ruined as it had gone up and down in temp all day. The next few days were spent calling the 800 number for Pit Boss on the back of the manual and being put on hold for up to 50 minutes without ever speaking to a person. I called the walmart where it was purchased and they couldnt tell me anything over the phone, they said they would have to review it before they could exchange it or refund us for it. Probobly a fair return policy given it is a cooking unit. I have been smoking meat with various electric smokers for 15 years and this is the first time Iâve ever had so much trouble getting a consistent temperature. I would not recomend this smoker and I hope I am able to at least exchange it for something different.
Complete piece of crap. I bought This smoker November 2019 and have used it twice. The control panel malfunctioned I replaced it. Put it back in still having the same problem they sent me out a thermometer probe. Replaced that still have the problem. Tried to return it to Walmart they would not except it. Throwing it away.
The unit was defective. Half of the fire box screws could not all be fitted due to poor alignment of the receiver holes. The door did not close poorly, leaving large gaps for heat to escape the cooking chamber. Poor door hinge alignment contributing to the gap issue. The cooking chamber was also flimsy and distorted. I am returning it as a defective unit.
