In another review, someone said to add 2 and 1/2 gallons of water. Too much for one of these blocks so had to add one more block to the bucket. Still had to drain some water, so I would suggest starting with less than a gallon and go from there. This is a great product. Storage is sure better than having big bags of compost. I'm predicting that all of my garden beds will be able to be much enriched with this purchase.
I thought I would need to incorporate potting mix to stretch the Cococoir bricks but I did not need to do anything except add water. Hot water is best as it is easily absorbed and takes less time. Just break up any big chunks and you are good to go!
The brand I trust! I bought 🧱 smaller bricks because these break down faster for small projects like filling my potatoes 🥔 grow bags indoors. Great medium for gardening soil mix, requires less watering and
it takes about 2 1/2 gal of water for each brick. Leave rest for a day or so. Mix it up it looks like an over the top composite soil mix. My herbs are loving it.
Something good for a change. Since peat is not easily renewed this product has taken its place. Ease of use = A Moistens easily and evenly for use. Much less messy than peat.
I I thought it would go farther. I have a 47-in x 33-in x by 23-in above ground planter and it filled up about 3 in halfway, and that was all five bricks. But it looks good, smells good and feels good so we'll see how it does. We mixed in some potting soil with it also to make up the rest of the room in the potting bed. I know now to get two boxes (5 bricks each) the next time I order it. If I decide to do it again.
I use a lot of coco coir in my seedlings. This is a good quality product. I have used other brands that turned my hands red but this one doesn't.
So far I've opened three bricks of this order of coir. They rehydrated, and easier to handle than one single huge brick; but they all smelled like boat fuel. I've used about 3-4 different coir brands in the past but never had this fuel odor before. Also, one of the bricks had several bird feathers, which was a little unnerving and disheartening.
Every year I make my own diy seedling mix. I wanted to purchase my ingredients early to get a head start this season. Unfortunately, my go to coco coir brand was unavailable. I ran across Plantonix brand and decided to go with it because I'm very familiar with the company. Very disappointed in the quality. I have random plants growing in the medium. Never had this with the other brand. Will never purchase again!
I used to buy coconut coir bricks from Home Depot, and the quality was always very good. This time, I bought them from Walmart, and the quality is very poor. Even after soaking for three days, the brick still didn't break apart. It remained hard and was difficult to crumble — I had to crush it by hand. Overall, I won't buy coconut coir bricks from Walmart again!
