Fits my classic dressage bodied 16.3hh tank as well as my slender 17 hh mare. No rubs & plenty of holes to go either way on the girth. Girth is padded with neoprene & is comfy. Much nicer than picture- not bulky at all (my worry before purchasing). I put a folded Navajo blanket underneath it (I don't put my surcingle a over my saddle). Does have suede which I'm sure will rub off with due time but don't think it will effect the overall appearance.
I am totally amazed at the quality of this surcingle! When I ordered it, based on the description and price, I thought I would get a really inferior product but when it came in the mail, I was very pleasantly proven wrong. Not only is the webbing ultra sturdy, the side rings and the girth are reinforced with suede. I have never experienced any of that scrunching of the webbing that so many web surcingles do when your horse pulls on the side rings. I have used this surcingle for lungeing with side reins and for long lining and I have been super pleased with it and highly recommend it.
This fits my 18hh+ Percheron gelding, that has an 85"-90" heart girth....this is the FIRST time I have ever been able to buy a "horse" sized item and it fit. The leather is stiff and needs some care to soften, otherwise this is great.
I got this a couple months ago and it works great, it is soft and comfortable for my horse. It is also durable as I've used it for training my green OTTB. It does run large and the pony size fits her perfectly so if you have a smaller horse you might want to get the pony size.
I was borrowing a friend's cloth surcingle until I could find the right one for my high withered warmblood. This one arrived from SmartPak and was a little imposing looking out of the box with the leather and pads. Nonetheless, I took it to the barn, put it on my gelding and hooked up my Pessoa rope system. Wow. The whole thing softened right up and molded to my horse. The pads really made him more comfortable than the cloth surcingle we had been using. (I put it over a Back On Track dressage pad to keep his back supple.) The leather is nice and the buckles are easy to work. The rings are plentiful and allow for pulleys and ropes to be fed through with no difficulty. As for sizing, I believe this runs a little large. My horse is an Oldenberg, but he is tall, thin and athletically built so I have to buckle this up pretty high. There is a lot of room to let out for larger barreled horses. I would highly recommend this surcingle over the others I saw online. It was a great value for the price.
Just took this surcingle out of the package today and used it with the Pessoa Lungeing System. Easy to adjust and fit straight out of the package and fits all of my different sizes of ponies. Supple leather and the suede is nice. Works perfectly with the Pessoa. Can't comment on longevity since I have only used it once but I really liked that it was so easy to work with brand new.
I bought this in the pony size for ground driving my young one.. Very happy wih the looks of it, and it has plenty of dee rings to work with. It's a nice surcingle for the price.
I use this surcingle several times a week and find it flexible, versatile and most importantly comfortable for my half Arab half Trakehner. Both lightweight AND sturdy/well made. Very happy with the product.
Used for two weeks and so far so good. Nice middle of the road quality, durable, no rubber grips to pull hair, and the horses find it comfortable
The description of this surcingle failed to state that the back pads AND the girth are suede! The only way to know whether that would work on a horse was to try it, and my horse didn't like it much. I also thought there was a free return. So now I get to figure out to clean it up from one trial, and have the privilege of paying to return it. I will say this is my first disappointment in dealing with Smartpak.
