These popcorn makers are awesome and last a long time. The popcorn is far more healthy, I use coconut oil, and tastes way better than any microwave or hot air popper!
I consider myself a popcorn aficionado of sorts. I have used everything from your back-in-the-day pot to microwave poppers, air poppers, stove-top poppers and Teflon plate electric poppers (the ones you have to manually shake). Not one of them works as well as the Popflix Dome Popcorn Popper. I use about a tbsp and a bit of Coconut Oil (pre-melted) and drip it around the bottom (swirl the oil around by moving the bottom similar to how you would do to butter in a pan). Add your preferred "measured" amount of kernels and simply switch the unit on. Make sure the screw holding the turning rod is not too tight as it will not allow the rod to turn continuously while the oil heats up and the kernels pop. I do not add butter on the top as described in the directions as I prefer to just melt a little additional Coconut Oil and add it with my seasonings when the popcorn is all popped. I have used the Popflix many times over the passed 2 months and it works perfectly every time with not a single kernel unpopped. Another small thing I found is that when you affix the red plastic lid to the top of the dome make sure it is on securely before you turn the Popflix over. I prefer to tie up the cord before flipping the unit (there is enough time to do so without burning any popcorn). Perfect plump, fresh popcorn every time!! The unit is larger than I expected which actually turned out great because you can make enough for one person or a group of people and within minutes make more. At times I like to make a large amount and make white & dark chocolate popcorn with raw walnut pieces and Himalayan Salt-Yumalicious!!! Clean-up is a breeze. I simply use a damp paper towel with a touch of dish soap to wipe off the plate and then follow with a clean damp paper towel to complete cleaning, then just wipe dry. Always let the plate cool before cleaning as it ruins the finish if you wash it when it's hot....and it does get hot. The dome can be soaked and washed or, I believe, is dishwasher safe. I absolutely love the Popflix and have recommended it to many friends.
Had a stir crazy popcorn popper for years and the lid broke. Was the best popper I ever had. Couldn't buy a new lid and unhappy with what they replaced it with. Is also the same popper as my old one and works just as well. Seems built better then the old one. So far extremely happy. I eat a lot of popcorn.
[Employee of walmartcanada] Bought this a little while ago, and really happy with the purchase. Works great, and the popcorn tastes delicious. It will not work if you do not add the oil first and as much as suggested in the manual. If you follow the instructions, this gadget works like a beauty.
This product works just fine, if you bother to read the manual. The negative reviewer who mentions un-popped kernels probably failed to use oil (the manual states that failure to do so will result in, hehe, un-popped kernels; a shot in the dark, but the other negative reviewer probably soaked the hot plate). I've been using mine once or twice a week for four months, and there has been ZERO drop in quality of output, because I read the manual. Only once has a bad batch been produced, because my roomie failed to Read. The. Manual.
l bought this to roast green coffee beans not pop corn. Does an excellent job. Well made. Stirring arms work well, keep beans from burning while roasting. Based on performance with green coffee beans, I am certain popcorn will be just as good. Highly recommend as a quality appliance.
It works very well just be very carful in flipping it over. Always flip it evenly and not tipping it in the direction of the side handles or you will get badly burned from the oil and if you add butter. To be extra safe use oven mitts with grip when flipping it over.
Its really giving us hard time as the long metal that turns the popcorn keeps pulling off. I cant even fix it anymore
I made popcorn in this popper it works great but the popcorn tasted stale, we bought a new bottle of a well known brand and it also tasted stale as well. Both times I followed the instructions and I don't know why the popcorn isn't light and fluffy. It might be just this one machine or it might not, all I know is I was not satisfied with it.
I bought this maker several months ago, after reading the positive reviews here. I would give it a "four-star" rate considering its performance, but instead I give it a "FAIL", as described below. The Good: Very fast, no burning, large capacity, looks nice, very easy to clean, simple to use, almost no kernels that didn't pop. The Bad!: The clear plastic bowl/top. It is so pliable that it quickly breaks at the handles, then eventually cracks from the handles into the bowl. The disintegration of the bowl started just outside the return period of 90 days. The manufacturer provides a parts replacement order form within the instructions, but *I refuse to spend more money on this machine for a replacement part that will break just as the original bowl did*! I did makeshift repairs using a plastic repair epoxy until it became irreparable with additional cracks, and now just use a large, opaque plastic bowl from a common store that sells inexpensive plastic items. The bowl was not abused or handled roughly, gently hand washed, and only used by adults. We've used the machine less than twenty times as I write this review. I would suggest to the manufacturers that for the edge/lip of the bowl and its handles areas, they reinforce it with more plastic! Much more than the current, ridiculously thin, extra rib at the lip. A simple solution! Dear fellow-consumer; I strongly suggest that you open the box in-store and examine the clear plastic bowl so you can make your own assessment before purchasing this item. Hopefully, someone with the company will read this review and eventually fix it.
