I really like this jerky gun. It worked really well. The gun comes with three different tips to pick what you want your jerky to be shaped like. One is wide, one is 2 narrow strips in one, and the third is for making round sticks. I did all three of them. Each tip was easy to use and change from one to the other. The product comes with several packets of seasoning and cure. That is what I used to make my jerky. The stuff in the packets wasn't a powder. It is more like a moist powder. I had to scrape some of it out of packet to get all of it. I mixed the packets with 1 lb of ground turkey. Putting it in the gun is very easy to do as the gun has a large opening. The gun holds about 1 lb of seasoned meat in its chamber. I choose to try each of the tips to see how well they do and how easy it is to change them. Releasing the trigger back a little bit makes the meat slowly move out of the tip. So then it is easier to change the tip. Everything screws together. The meat flows out of it very smoothly to extrude it on to your dehydrator trays.
This is a very simple and fast way to make jerky using ground meats. I like buying packages of ground turkey for $5 for 20oz at the local store when it's on sale and adding my own fresh crack black pepper, chopped garlic etc and making the sticks with the round attatchment for a healthier snack. Ground venison with chipotles or cayenne is a favorite of mine as well. You can also buy ground beef in bulk and add your own flavorings and spices for beef jerky. It holds a pound of ground meat at a time and goes fast with this gun. There are 3 tips for sticks, strips and one that makes 2 strips at a time. You can make it and set the dehydrator in no time with this jerky gun. This also comes with 5 packets of cure and 5 packets of spices to get you started too. If you search the web you can find many jerky seasoning recipes and make it yourself for so much less than store bought plus you have your own quality control.
Presto has done it again! Have a number of their products. Was surprised to find the jerky gun. If you know how to utilize a cookie gun, this will be a snap. Many ways to make jerky, but for the ground meat(s) this is ideal. Do make sure the meat is 93% and 7% fat due to the curing process. Careful when using 'processed ' ground meats that contain salt as the cure & seasonings you get with the Jerky Gun contain salts and the sodium will be off the Richter scale. There are alot of sites online, including YouTube that are informative: one that is put out by Presto. The jerky that was made this past 2 weeks were chowed down post-haste. Overall, easy assembly, usage and clean-up. One pack of cure/seasoning to 1-lb of meat, whether as a marinade for flank steak or as an addition to 'plain' ground meats. Beef, pork, chicken turned out great. Would like to try turkey. Time to tend to the batch in the oven. **You may use a food dehydrator that is 'capable' for making jerky as you have to reach a specific temp. Some food dehydrators do not qualify, as this is a meat product and a 175° temp is necessary.
So excited to receive my Presto Jerky Gun and seasoning......I got 4 lbs of 94 % lean ground beef and mixed 2 lbs with the seasoning that came with the jerky gun..........and made up 2 of my own...........it worked like a dream ....Although I had a hard time getting one of the shooter tops off.......but I think it has to do with my hands not being to strong ...other than that it cleans up nice as it comes all apart.......Love it an lot.............Thanks so much...
Great tool to make jerky. Love it my brother had one and I got one after using his
Ordered this as a gift for my daughter. She is very pleased with it. She loves processing deer and other items. I look forward to the items she will be able to make with this. I love fresh made meat products with no preservatives or artificial ingredients.
This was my first time using a Jerky gun and the Presto Jerky Gun worked suprisingly well. It was easy to load the ground sirloin, the tips worked great and it cleaned up very easely. Note: After your through pumping out the meat the cap will still have a tablespoon or more of meat left over on the inside of the tip. The flavor packets were hard to mix because the instructions say to mix meat and seasoning in a bowl until blended good, important (not menstioned in the instructions), it is so much easier to pre mix the two dry seasonings in a seperate bowl with a spoon or something you can crush the clumps of seasoning with. I did not do that on the first batch and wound up with strong flavor in one area and no flavor on other pieces and I did mix it up good in the bowl. Take your time pumping the meat out while moving the gun until you get used to it. Works great, the only negitive was the spice mixture is to mild, at least for my taste. Next batch will have some Ghost Pepper finely chopped and its going on the smoker instead of the dehydrater. All in All this Jerky Gun does a great job.
I like the Presto Jerky Gun because it is wider than most jerky guns on the market. Also it has a clear see thru tube to let you know how much meat is left in the gun. The three tips are great for different varieties of jerky from the wide strips to "slim Jim" type snacks, the only complaint I have is the thinner strip maker (which makes two strips at the same time) is a little small for my taste. You get five seasoning and cure packets with the gun which makes 5 pounds worth of jerky. The seasoning is mild so anyone can enjoy it. The bad thing on this gun is the plunger, the bottom of the plunger rob is very sharp and can cut your hand or fingers without any force so be careful when taking the gun apart for filling or cleaning.
I got the Presto jerky gun and seasoning pack for free to try and leave a review on. Ill start with the good. The seasoning taste very good and has a good jerky flavor. It made a decent amount of jerky also. It also comes with 3 different sized attachments which is nice. Now for the bad, the jerky gun. the jerky gun itself wasnt that great. You put the meat in the barrell and put an attachment on. There was a lot of problems with the meat getting stuck in the attachment and it wasnt coming out and when it would come out it wasnt an easy task. I fought with the jerky gun more than I was able to use it. I ended up rolling the jerky into a flat sheet with a rolling pin on the dehydrator tray and that ended up being much easier and much more productive than the jerky gun. I wouldnt recommend the jerky gun itself it was more of a pain than helpful
easy enough to use although it was a challenge operating the trigger. retainer rings broke after second use.
