This is a first for me, but the material is very strong (heavy felt maybe). I used them for cherry tomatoes. Simply unzip the bottom and insert plant roots, then zip shut to a reasonable point. Then while holding it, fill with your potting soil, then hang. You can also plant plants on the top. Since cherry tomatoes are heavy producers, I expect to not have to buy any from the store this summer. Such a brilliant idea and fun too.
I love these for growing my tomatoes and peppers. They are fantastic for small spaces like my balcony and you can grow another plant from the top! They are breathable and cloth- like and pretty tough with a nice zipper for inserting your plant, thankfully are not plastic—and I have no bug problems. If I get a butterfly caterpillar I simply remove them gently and keep them in a butterfly house until they mature with a few choice leaves. Win win! I will be ordering more because I'd like to try some new types to see how they'll do upside down.
Didn't get gloves nor tools in this order!
I didn't realize that the tomato hanging bags were felt rather than plastic. but I feel like that might be a good thing for holding on to liquid for the plants?
Excited to try these !
These planters are nice and sturdy. My only complaint is the size of the opening for the plant to come thru. It would be nice to have 2 zippers on the bottom instead 1 to allow for more room if needed for bigger plants. My small strawberry plants barely fit thru going from either top or bottom.
Make sure to use when plants are still small. I was able to put in a taller tomato plant, I just had to be very careful, my smaller plant was much easier. We will see if I get tomatoes.
The tomatoes keep trying to grow up instead of down. I don't understand why this is better for the plant or the fruit. The tomatoes seem to grow all right in them, but they keep trying to curl back up towards the sky.
Zipper on the end is a strange design.
Stiff. Awkward. Seems to be leeching water from plants. Not good for hot environments.
