Nice Medium Size Fryer

cactusbob September 28, 2015

Well made fryer. Good stainless steel outside, and the oil container is enamel ware. I used an infrared temperature gun to check the accuracy of the oil temperature, it was very accurate. The best feature about this is that it comes completely apart for easy cleaning and changing the oil. The basket is heavy stainless steel, cleans easy and will sit above the oil to load it and let the oil drain after frying. It holds exactly one bottle of oil from the store, which I thought was another plus. I made french fries, they came out perfect. I have cooked fried chicken in it twice. The first time I cooked with the lid on and the chicken came out moist and tender, perfect. Second time I left the lid off and the chicken still came out moist, but crispy on the outside, great color. This is a great fryer I just wish it was a little bit bigger.

Let's have a fish fry!!

alabamabutterfly55 September 27, 2015

I live in the South where fried food is part of our daily diet. However, health problems have prevented me and my husband from eating too many fried foods. They are too greasy and even though you use healthier oils, it still cannot be good as a steady diet. I rarely fry anything. My husband loves to fish and recently brought home some fresh Bass. Luckily for us, the Proctor Silex 1.5L Professional-Style Deep Fryer in Stainless Steel showed up at my house at just the right time! We had a fish fry! I have had fryers in the past but never one like the Proctor Silex Deep Fryer so I was anxious to try it out. First of all, it is made of stainless steel so it will be much easier to keep clean and it looks professional for sure. I do like the compact design. I would have preferred a larger size. The small size does fry more than you think it would though. What makes the Proctor Silex Deep Fryer a winner to me is the Ready Light. It lets you know for sure when the temperature is right for frying. The right temperature keeps the food from absorbing too much oil so your food is much healthier! Did I mention the basket?! It makes frying a snap! You lift the basket and let it rest on the side so any excess oil will drip back into the fryer. I love it! As you may be able to tell from one of my pictures, the fish I fried in the Proctor Silex Deep Fryer was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Best of all, it was not greasy!

Great COMPACT fryer

Campmaster55 October 7, 2015

The Proctor Silex 1.5L Deep Fryer has a lot going for it. It is a great unit if you are looking for a deep fryer that can handle smaller batched of food or are looking for a fryer to get you started on deep frying your own foods. Be warned however, once you learn how delicious the food is coming out of the deep fryer, you will be looking for more. (not that this is a bad thing) Pros: -Small footprint fits on the counter top. - Brushed Stainless Steel and Black look works with almost any decor. -Unit completely disassembles for easy cleaning. -Uses a full 48 oz bottle of oil. -Small volume allows for quick heat-up and cool-down. -Handles two main dish servings or four side dish. -Design keeps high heat away from expensive counter-tops. -Handles allow for hot fryer to be moved safely -Unique magnetic cord connection helps prevent accidental spills. Cons: -Small size. We've tried everything from store bought frozen appetizers to a variety of our own creations (including some beer battered SPAM fries that were awesome). Everything has turned out great. When using frozen items, just make sure the oil is back up to temperature before starting the timer. And we found that the recommendations for frying times included with the fryer are not as accurate as those on the packages of frozen items themselves. The unique magnetically attached power cord sure seemed like a gimmick when I pulled the unit out of the box. But the first time I moved the full unit I snagged the cord on our stand mixer and the magnet released the cord from the base. I had made sure the unit was unplugged, but was not watching close enough to notice the plug was hung up on the mixer. Had the cord been hard-wired, I would have had warm oil spread all over the counter and floor. That's all it took to sell me on the new style connection. This is probably the most fun item we have picked up for our kitchen in years. We would highly recommend the Proctor Silex 1.5L Deep Fryer (provided you can exercise some self control and not start deep frying every single meal :) .

Great little fryer

HuntingFishingMother November 7, 2015

Proctor Silex Professional Style Deep Fryer, 1.5Liter. What a great little deep fryer. The only bad thing I can say is it is definitely made for one person and the only way to fill the basket is to put considerably more oil into the fryer. The line for the recommended amount of oil, when heated, only covers about half of the basket. I actually added about 2 cups more oil and was able to fill the basket to about ¾ full. This litter fryer comes in multiple pieces and is easy to put together as well as pull apart for cleaning. It heats up very fast and cooks perfectly. French fries are golden brown, in new oil, after the recommended cooking time. Hash brown squares should be cooked for a shorter amount of time. Everything that I have cooked in this little fryer has turned out perfect. When I am done using it, I allow the oil enough time to cool to place in another container. I am then able to fully break down the fryer to clean every inch of it. The dial is easy to read and use. The ready light turns on when the oil is at the temperature that you set it at. I loved the fryer so much that I purchased the larger size for when I am cooking for the whole family.

Perfect for 2

GreenTree October 17, 2015

I have to admit that I was surprised to see that this fryer is small but glad it doesn't take up much room in my kitchen. My husband and I don't fry very much but when we do, this will be a great asset to our kitchen. I love the fryer basket and the lid covering the spatter when frying. I also love that you can choose the temperature for frying. It is convenient to have a light that indicates it is heating and when it is ready. The small size makes it easy to take outside to cook when having a fish fry. Make sure it is hooked up right. I didn't have the electrical part sitting right at first. It wasn't making the connection. Once connected correctly, it heated up quickly. I had enough fries cooked in less than 15 minutes from start to finish. Afterwards, it was easy to clean up. It cooled off pretty quick. I strained the oil and stored it in a glass container. If you are cooking for a big group, it will take a while.

Deep Fried Dream!

cogziegirl October 11, 2015

The Proctor Silex 1.5 L Professional-Style Deep Fryer, with the stainless steel finish, is like an absolute dream come true for my family and me. With dimensions of 8”x8”x9” and easy to clean stainless steel finish, it fits perfectly on any countertop, matching any décor. It easy to read temperature setting dial is great it takes the guesswork of how hot your oil is before cooking, no more oil saturated food. It also has a magnetic electric cord, so when you detach from the fryer it will stick to the back of the fryer so it is easy to find the next time you need it. It cooks chicken wings to perfection in nine minutes add fresh fried potatoes and you have either a quick snack or light meal in under 20 minutes. There is a recipe book included in the instruction manual so there is no guesswork on what temperature to cook foods at. I cannot say enough good things about this deep fryer. Having worked over 20 years in the restaurant industry, it truly is a miniature version of a professional deep fryer. I would most definitely recommend this product to my friends and family. With the holidays just around the corner it makes a perfect gift for yourself or that person you know who loves deep fried food.

Restaurant-Quality Fried Foods at Home

lorna444birds October 1, 2015

After trying this little fryer for more than a week, I think it's definitely a keeper! Not only does it make delicious fries, chicken wings, onion rings and okra, it is very compact and easy to store. I love the safety features: it has a magnetic plug on the element; a green light to let you know when it's the right temperature; a temperature dial; a vented cover; and a detailed instruction booklet. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because when I used the lid that comes with it, steam did come out of the vents on top of the lid, but steam also came out of the front where there is a cutaway for the basket handle. That is it's only design flaw; it could use more vents on top. This is a perfect sized fryer for one or 2 people. If you are cooking for more, then you really need a bigger fryer. We cooked fries, wings, okra, onion rings and batter-dipped mushrooms. When cooking fries, you simply load the basket and lower it into the oil. With batter-dipped foods, you first lower the basket into the hot oil, and then carefully lower each batter-dipped piece into the oil. Homemade onion rings tend to sink and the batter gets embedded in the basket. It's best to use store-bought frozen onion rings in this fryer. Be sure to use good quality oil--peanut, canola and palm oils will not smoke up your home. Unplug when done. Please make sure the oil is completely cool before pouring into another container. Cleanup is very easy, making this fryer fun and easy to use. Bon appetit!

deep fryer

newmommy2b2daniel October 5, 2015

I received this deep fryer at no charge through a review company. The opinions expressed here are solely mine based on my own personal experience with this item and are in no way influenced by the manufacturer or retailer. This deep fryer is small. I would only recommend it for a single person. It can not fry very much food at one time. The basket can hold about a handful of french fries. It is not big enough to deep fry pieces of chicken or pork chops. If you are looking for a fryer that doesn't take up much space and will only be frying small foods for yourself then this is for you. It does come apart very easily and this makes clean up very simple. Everything fits down inside of the fryer for easy storage without using much space. It has a knob to turn to the desired temperature. Once the temperature is reached a green light will light up. The cord has a magnetic connection so that if a child or anyone were to pull on it, it will disconnect from the fryer to prevent the fryer from being knocked over. Being a smaller fryer it holds less oil, 48 ounces will fill to the max line. The oil pot, basket and lid are dishwasher safe, however I washed them by hand. The entire fryer comes apart which does make for very easy cleanup. I was only able to fry french fries and tater tots in this because of the size, however they did fry up perfectly. This would make a nice fryer for someone single that has a small apartment or dorm because it does not take up much counter space at all.

Single serving size

craftylady1957 October 5, 2015

This is going to be a good news/bad news type of review. On the good news side, it is very nice. It is a reliable brand name. It does work well, just be sure that you are using liquid oil and not solid shortening in it. I was really excited to get this deep fryer because it was “time to make the donuts”. However, and this is where the “bad news” starts, I had read all of the instructions, etc. I put in some solid shortening, as I usually do to fry the donut dough, and it started smoking, so I added some oil to it and it stopped smoking and melted the shortening. I think the 1.5 Liter Professional-style name is a little misleading, at least for me it was. I was expecting something a little bigger. Anyway, I don't like that the element in actually in the oil instead of being under the pan that holds the oil. It takes up space that could be used for frying food. Further, the basket is very small due to the reason I just stated and will only hold maybe a serving size of French fries, chicken tenders, etc. The instructions give you very specific foods that should be used with this machine and gives cautions about using uncooked meats, etc. (in other words, you probably shouldn't cook these things in this fryer). Also, the cleanup is kind of a pain due to oil and having to be careful not to submerge the element. Every other part of this fryer is washable. So, all in all, I am rather disappointed with this product. I certainly wouldn't have bought this item myself. Would I recommend it? Probably not. I give this item a thumbs down, unfortunately.
