Arrived in perfect condition. Installed easily. Had a question for tech support on a Saturday. Easy quick answer. Energized it and it worked well. Second one I've purchased.
I purchased this for my new travel trailer as I did not want to worry about having a similarly-priced external surge suppressor getting stolen at a campsite. I did not have time to do the installation when I first got to the camp site so I decided not to plug in at all the first night for fear of having picked the one camping spot that had the messed up power pedestal. Paranoia certainly hits when you think about plugging in your rig for the first time outside the dealership and you are totally unprotected. Installation is fairly straightforward. I pulled out my power control box out of its location and disconnected the power cord coming from the shore power connection in the back of my trailer. I reconnected the shore power cables to the input side of the hw50c. I bought 3 feet of 6/3 wire (red, white, black, ground) at the hardware store and connected one side of the cable to the to the output (load) side of the hw50c and the other end to the power control box of the trailer. The hardest part is manipulating the wires into place. These are thick 6-gauge suckers and they are very hard to bend into place, especially in tight areas. I recommend you attach your wires on both sides of the hw50c before placing it in its final location if you can. I placed the remote display just above the power control box inside the cabinet that hides it as the remote display is very bright. It immediately did its job when I tried to power my trailer with my floating neutral generator as I had forgotten to plug in the neutral ground bonding plug on it. The hw50c detected an open ground and did not allow power into the trailer. As soon as I corrected my mistake it powered the rig right up. My wife then tried to use the microwave while running the generator and the voltage drop at startup caused the hw50c to shut everything down due to a low voltage condition. While this is exactly what it should do, I ended up temporarily flipping the bypass switch on the display monitor to allow the microwave to work without tripping the hw50c. Overall Im happy with the results of these two unplanned testing conditions and feel confident that my rig is protected when plugging in at a campsite pedestal. When using a generator however, I will likely bypass the EMS features. The surge protection feature is still enabled whether I use the bypass switch or not so I am still protected from frying my electronics and appliances
Installed the HW50C in my RV. It was a challenge as the space behind the electrical panel was small and tight. But I got it in. Hooked up power to the trailer and it worked perfectly. Now no worries about using an outside surge protector and someone stealing it or getting weather damage.
YOU SHIPPED ME A UNIT THAT WAS MISSING PARTS< NO DATA CORD FOR REMOTE UNIT CALLED THE MFG AND THEY SAID IT SHOULD BE IN THE BOX
