Miss Newbury's List By Megan Walker Rosalind Newbury is soon to be married, and she has a list things she is determined to accomplish before her wedding day. Rosalind is convinced that once she accomplishes these ten things, she'll be ready to marry, allowing her to find happiness in the arrangement with the Duke of Marlow. But three weeks to accomplish everything will take some strategic planning to keep her family in the dark about what she is about. After all, the future wife of a duke should not be learning to swim. or any of the other things Ros has determined to do. But she needs help, and unfortunately, the one person most likely to aid her endeavor is her best friend's cousin. Mr. Charles Winston has made a mess of his life. And he isn't about to improve it anytime soon, but he never planned on meeting Rosalind Newbury. When she manages to convince him to help her, in exchange for her silence, how can he refuse her? What neither expected was a friendship that would threaten Rosalind's future. Miss Newbury's List is a lovely and delightful read. It is a standalone title that is full of depth that explores the expectations of duty versus the desires of the heart. How does one decide whether elevating one's family is more important than love? This is the decision that Rosalind faces. She knows her duty and is content with it until she meets Charlie, a man who sees her for who she is and not who she is expected to present herself as. I really enjoyed Miss Newbury's List, and have to admit I was not sure where Rosalind would direct her future. She obviously cared about her family and wanted to help them, so she was torn when she met Charlie. And then was Charlie, who was slipping lower in his family's estimation due to his behavior. Two more unlikely people in the estimation of those who knew them, but the heart isn't always to be understood by others. I would love to have a sequel that would follow Rosalind's brother Ben. Ben seemed more in tune with his sister's feelings and put this first in his thinking. Overall this is a book I have no reservations in recommending to fans of clean reads and Regency Romance. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
Rosalind Newbury is about to marry the Duke of Marlow which will insure her family a title in exchange for the parcel of land the Duke would gain and her, of course. She has made a list of things to do before she marries. The list was made when she was 12…Enter Charles Winston…her neighbor and best friend, Liz Ollerton's cousin…a bit of a rogue, rough around the edges. The further she gets into fulfilling this list, the more tempestuous the shenanigans! This story begs for these two to be together. I didn't know how they would get there, the journey was a bit treacherous with an added dose of scandal but in the end this book earns a sigh and a smile. This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.
This is a book to be adored by its readers. I adore it, every single piece of it. Miss Newbury has a list she wants to complete before she marries the duke. How was she supposed to know that Charlie's help with the list would change her life. Megan Walker has written a beautiful story that sucked me in from the start and then just took off from there never getting dull. She keeps this story moving, entertaining and pulls at all your emotions as a reader along the way. You just can't help but root for Rosalind and Charlie to get together and Walker has you hooked, unable to put it down, as you need to know just how they can make things right and find that happily ever after they so want and deserve. The slow burn romance is agonizingly beautiful. I wanted it so badly for these two and wanted to just shove them together more than once, but the path to their happily ever after is beautifully crafted thanks to Walker's writing. The conversations pull at the heartstrings, the almost scandal had my heart pounding and the love letter...oh that letter is just what the romantic heart wants and needs. Swoony moments in Miss Newbury's List? Yes, plenty and you do not want to miss a single moment. On top of the romance aspect, you have beautiful themes of freedom to choose your future, redemption from past mistakes, and really just embracing the beauty you are as an individual and seeing you deserve the happily ever after. Walker does such a fantastic job with putting these themes to work in her story and writing wonderful characters who grow to become so much more with each turn of the page. Get ready for an adventure as you join Rosalind and Charlie as they complete a list that takes them in a direction none could have predicted. And be ready to swoon as forbidden love creeps in and steals your heart. *I received a complimentary copy from the publishers, publicists, and/or authors. A review was not required, and all opinions are my own.
Dearest Lady Walker, This book is delightful and charming and utterly swoony. You write the swooniest of heroes and your heroines go through the best character development. Thanks for loving them enough to do that. ;) You have written the most deliciously unique story into this book and I loved every twist and turn, every heart-stopping adventure, every time Ros needed to be saved from herself yet again. I loved Ros, her impetuousness, her determined and loyal nature, and her cute little list. And I loved Charlie. I loved that your hero wasn't perfect either, but also had to go through a good deal of growth and change. It's not an easy feat to show character growth for a character who doesn't get a POV in a book, and yet you did it so well! The side characters here were so good. I absolutely adore Liza, and I love Ben like a brother. His protection of Ros was so sweet and I think he is the cutest. (Please tell me we will, in the future, get another book with these two?) Rosalind's parents were perfect and I was so glad they weren't ogres. And Marlow! Ooh, I love a good character to hate. Good form. The premise of this one is so different and so sweet. I was wholly engrossed throughout my reading and was loathe to stop whenever something pulled me away. You should see the tabs I have placed throughout my copy, marking all the passages I dearly loved. The relationship between Ros and Charlie was electric and witty and I loved it. And you write a seriously swoony kissing scene! I'm so grateful you have graced the world with another of your books and thank you profusely for doing so! Your fan, Jessica **I received a complimentary copy of this book, though a positive review was not required.
