Wonderful feed product. My older horses who start to have a hard time holding weight......Regain it after daily feedings. Helps.them into their upper 30s!
I have a 33 year old gelding who has lost some teeth and has difficulty chewing hay. I also have a 28 year old mare with great teeth, but tends in her senior years to get sand in her gut while grazing. I have raised, broke, trained these horses from their births. They safely and dutifully provided me, my children, and my grandchildren, with years of immeasurable fun and memories. Our equine vet recommended a complete feed for my seniors, now retired, so that they would get all the essential nutrition they need — safely and efficiently, in a form that they enjoy and are able to safely consume. I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND PURINA SENIOR HORSE COMPLETE FEED! My lifelong companions are shiny, happy, healthy, and back to a healthy weight. Some people say, “Why bother, you can't use them; they're just expensive lawn ornaments!” I say; “They have enriched my life, and my family's life for decades, from the time they were born. We have grown old together. They are worth it…. They deserve the best of care for their entire lives. The best is Purina Senior Horse Complete Feed. THANK YOU!
I have a 33 year old Quarter Horse mare that I started on Purina Equine Senior a few years ago when her vet recommended she no longer consume hay. She has been living on a hay-free diet ever since and looks wonderful on Purina Senior. She has access to pasture but only for something to do, the quality of the grass isn't very high. The rest comes from the Purina. She keeps weight on, her coat is glossy, and she keeps up with the young horses. Couldn't be happier with this product. I just wish it was sold in Canada - I have to drive down to the US to purchase it.
My 30 & 25 year olds eat every bite & lick the pan - I have to soak it for the 30 year old, and have tried other brands and he picks at it, he cleans this right up! His lack of teeth prevent him from getting much/any nutrition from hay,. so its extremely important he eats this!
I've been using this product for many years and it has enabled me to keep Lizzy around for so many additional years! She is 32 this year! The fact that this product helps the horse digest and absorb the nutrition it has is phenomenal. Thanks Purina for enabling me to keep my precious pet around for so long!
At the recommendation of a vet we started using Equine Senior on a 28 year old rental horse that we acquired that had not had any care for three years. She was in terrible shape and we thought probably we were not going to save her. We live in Montana with great ranges in temperature and snow levels. We got this little arabian mare in October. It is now May and you wouldn't know it was the same horse! She's put on weight, her coat and mane are good and she's perky! Her eyes are shiny and she's back among us so to speak. Thanks for a great product. She was fed twice daily as she was able to take nutrition and now she stands at the fence and begs for her pellets...
I typically buy 4 bags at a time to feed two senior horses. This last batch has bugs in it. Flying moths. I have fed them this it realizing the potential threat. I have stopped and repurchased but if it continues will be switching. I go through a bag a week so it's not sitting long.
I have been feeding purina product for 35+ years and senior for the 15. The last two bag I've purchased my horses will not touch. Vet has cleared them and they will eat their other feed as long as the Senior isn't added. Anyone else having issues with the feed?
I'm so disappointed that you changed your senior complete feed formula to non-extruded. I will be finding a different feed.
Our pony always loved the senior feed and then the formula way changed or something, because it doesn't even look the same. Now our pony won't eat it, he looks, smells and walks away!!! Thought it was just that bag and was going to buy another bag thinking it was just the batch, but after reading other reviews, that doesn't seem to be the case. Guess we will not be buying and will have to find another brand or something else for him.
