My horse (Huckleberry) has tried several different feeds that she has stuck her nose up too, everyone except this one. She loves it!!!! I'm so happy and its so good for her.
I have two senior Quarter Horses. One is 26 the other is 22. They are both in great shape. I still use them for trail riding. They both have great stamina. When I tell people how old they are they don't believe me until they look in their mouth. I attribute their soundness and stamina to Equine Senior Active Horse.
The 30+ retired endurance ride gets hers morning & night to supplement her grass hay. Along with Enhance. The 9 year old with confirmation stifle & fetlock related issues enjoys that too along with the gastric feed too. Weight is fine on both. Actually need to keep younger one where he is at on weight.
I've been feeding Purina Active Senior for several years now. We raise this gelding from a baby And he's been a heading horse since he was 5 years old. He is still going strong thanks to feed and care.Thank U Purina for making a product that keeps my 24 year old roping horse feeling and acting like a colt!
I have fed another sr feed for a long time when this came out with the low NSC of around 16% i tried it, as my 23 year QH had stopped eating the feed he had been on. I love this feed, non grain based, low NSC my horse is crushing and on Prescend, so its important to me to give him the best low starch feed i can find that he will eat. He is active and rode daily. He is doing great on this. I put my 4 yr old Western Pleasure horse on it as well, he is thriving, has a wonderful coat and muscle tone now. Yes the formula is different and really I feel it is better, it can be sticky due to the fat/oil content NOT the molasses, it is not a sweet feed! I had to explain this to several of my clients.. Do not hesitate to try this feed you wont be disappointed.
I've quit using all my suppliments and put my 25 year old horse on just this product. She hasn't looked this wonderful in years. In 60 days, her coat has improved and she is back to her fiesty self. I'll be using this for any of my horses that need something extra.
My 21 year old Thoroughbred is a classic "hard keeper." On top of that he's a picky eater. I tried several different feeds, many were good nutritious foods but my vet recommended Purina because they do extensive feeding tests to ensure not only good nutrition but great taste too. My horse is fatter than he's ever been in the 6 years I've owned him. I've compared this feed to another popular brand but Purina comes out ahead in my mind due to the very low starch and sugars.
I started feeding my 17 year old OTTB mare this feed approximately 2 years ago. I have had her for ten years and she has always been a hard keeper and even when at a healthy weight she has had trouble maintaining her topline. The protein levels and nutrition in this feed have made an incredible difference in her fitness.
I was somewhat reluctant to change my senior horses' grain - "If it's not broke, don't fix it" sort of thing, but I finally decided to look into options and I found the Senior Active. I was already supplementing my horse with Outlast Gastric Support and Amplify so this seemed a natural choice for us. Switching to Senior Active has helped to keep weight on my Senior Thoroughbred and has saved me money in the long run. My only complaint is I wish Purina offered coupons or rebates :)
I have fed the senior active to my 20+ years old horses for a few years, but the last bag I bought had large pieces of beet pulp in it. It's always had very small pieces, but I'm concerned about these large pieces. I've always been told if you add beet pulp to your feed, you should soak it so it's easier for the older horses to chew & digest. It is very time-consuming to pick out these pieces, so I no longer feel like I can feed this to my horses.
