chickens love it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My family has always used Purina as a primary feed for our chickens. We feel good about the ingredients and blend.
I was buying chicken feed at local feed stores. My seven chickens of two Red Leggins, one Dominicker, and 4 young year 10 month old Australorps were not laying on a regular basis. I switched to Purina Layena pellets and they are laying more eggs than I can use! The shells were not very hard before I started them on this. Now their shells are hard and I am finding no broken eggs in the next. Thank you Purina for a great feed. I can't wait to try them on Purina + Open Range.
I have always fed Purina Layena to my girls and been very pleased with the results. I tried an off brand feed 1 time because I wasn't able to get the Purina for some reason, and I could tell a big difference in egg quality, quantity, and bird health in just 1 bag. I work at a vet clinic and recommend Purina to all our chicken clients, other food just doesn't compare.
I had 5 chickens left from a flock of 12 I purchased 8 years ago. During the winter it looked like they wouldn't make it to spring. Their free range but also get feed. 3 new Hampshire reds..1 black giant..a a Partridge Plymouth rock. Decided to get Layena Crumbles before thanksgiving. In just 3 wks they Literally became New birds. Their feathers started glowing..their lethargic behavior left..they got spunky & their still here. We went out & got 26 new peeps & immediately put them on purina starter. Their growth is stunning. I will NOT feed Anything else. Out 21 new ducks are on it too & doing amazing !! Healthy happy flocks !! You've got the right combination in that feed..please don't change it !!! Signed A very happy bird owner
My girls love Purina Premium Layena Pellets. Other brands are left in feeder, picked-through and wasted on the ground. Solid eggs with nice form and eggs have very orange center. You know you have healthy chickens and healthy eggs when the center is orange. Store bought eggs have a more yellow center and are not as healthy as the orange centers. Our Free-Range-Hens feathers are shiny and they have alot of energy.
I love Purina always have! However I switched to a different brand and I never should've done that! As soon as I did they stopped laying for a month, so I went back to Purina and I am getting more eggs than ever! I really like the Layena Pellets because my girls don't spill as much food! I feed my Goats and sheep Purina as well and they LOVE IT!
We have varied ages in our flock and as soon as they come off of Start-and-Grow we put them on Layena and our birds are all thriving. Eggs are regular with nice hard shells. The other thing I have noticed is that yolks tend to be larger and being that we have multiple breeds I attribute this (at least partially) to the food!
I purchase about 200 lbs a month and am happy with the results from my flock. I am not happy with the amount of dust in the mix. I have used other products with little or no dust. I wish the manufacturing process could be improved to produce less dust.
I have been using Layena pellets for 12 years. I've noticed the color of the pellets in some bags are a lot Lighter than other bags and my chickens eat almost twice as much. When we're buying 300Lbs a week and all of the sudden we're buying 400 Plus lbs a week. Someone needs to look into this matter
