I had this unit installed by a very knowledgeable automotive person...it is a dream....I have an HHR and the rear window visibility is reduced....the 4 inch monitor is just enough for its position (below the rearview mirror) .....and camera was mounted just above the license plate....very inconspicuous .......all wiring was placed behind the interior walls etc.....and only in the back-up mode....perfect for what I need...you cannot beat the price and quality of this unit....
Inexpensive but good basic camera/monitor
that you can be able to see behind you without worries
Was easy to install takes about 2 hours to do it right less if it's a car but I installed in on a truck works perfectly haven't had it long but still works well.
Bought to replace Northern Tool unit that quit. A real plus was that this unit plugged right into both camera and display wiring. No instructions on adjustment. Middle button selects mode and upper, lower adjust settings up, down after selecting mode such as brightness.
Easy to install and decent picture. The instructions are pretty much non-existent, confusing, and very tiny type face. That is the reason for the 4 star rating. However, just remember: red wire = hot (+), black wire = ground (-). The instructions say to connect the monitor through the ignition without explaining how. I chose, and recommend, to run a hot (+) wire to the monitor from the backup light wire and connect the ground to a something metal under the dash. The camera (+) connects to the backup light wire also, and the (-) connects to anything metal nearby. The video wire plugs into the yellow connectors on the camera and monitor. The white connector is not used. With this arrangement, the monitor and camera only receive power when the backup lights are activated. Therefore, you only see an image when you back up. If you want a full time rear camera, just attach the (+) wire to a wire that is full time hot when the ignition is on. The time consuming part is running and concealing the wires. One final note: you will also need to buy an additional 20 -25 feet of 16 or 18 gauge automotive wire to wire the monitor to the backup light wire.
Works well for the cost, easy for a problem solver to install. I would like to see a toggle for the distance lines or at least a tilt feature for mount angles. had it hooked up permanently to power, for over a year 9 months in the screen was a little fuzzy then one day blank static. I could put the cam into my new smart radio but I had a non-windowed e series van and always on serves as a good rearview mirror for a creeper style van.
Very simple and inexpensive. Wasn't enough camera wire to extend from camera to dash board in a 4 door crew cab pickup truck. No extensions available. Took 2 hrs to extend splice and solder some similar wire to reach. Needed additional 3 ft. That problem was listed in previous reviews and not corrected.
I really liked this product, so much so that I even bought a second for my Mom. Mom's still works, mine does not. The screen is just the right size to be useful without blocking our normal view forward. The problem is the screen life. Mine has died twice. The first time, the manufacturer replaced the lcd screen. The second time I didn't bother spending the money to send it back again (I can buy a new one for the shipping cost.) At least Mom's still works.
The one I had arrived dead. I connected to 12v and nothing. I checked the lead with my meter and that was fine. I checked the monitor by putting my meter in resistance mode and going across the contacts of the screen. Infinite resistance - something has likely not been soldered inside. They're replacing that one so I'll have to see how good the replacement is.
