I have a APHA 15.2h gelding with a very in-between sized head. Cob is usually really tight but "full" or horse is too big. I got thehorse size and while it is the normal "too big" for him. The adjustability made it fit just fine. I've had it 3 weeks and he hasn't gotten it off at all
The very best fly mask for any horse that you love!!!!
Fits well and does not poke into the horse's eyes. Seems very sturdy. The nose part can be taken off. Would buy again at this sales price!
What can I say—I LOVE these fly masks so much! A friend of mine purchased one for her horse years ago. When I saw it, I knew I had to get a couple for my ponies! My gelding is a fly mask Houdini. Last summer, he went through a grand total of 7 masks. They were torn, shredded, lost, you name it—he did it. When I converted him to the Rambo Plus Fly Masks, it was like magic! While the nose pieces do seem to come off the masks fairly easily (for him), the rest of the mask stays put so well. The unique design keeps the mask up and off sensitive eyes and it has a great UV rating (65%). And now, my mare has to match: she's lives up to her princess status in her lavendar mask.
Bought this to try to keep the irritation fly masks can cause eyes to a minimum. I know I play a lot of hide and go find my fly mask with my horse so I paired this with a field halter and hoped. It's done so well! I'm very pleased. He has absolutely tried to get it off but he has failed. Bonus points because he hasn't been able to rip it (yet) and it's still completely intact. The horse however, is not amused
This is a great fly mask. Yes, it does look a bit out of the ordinary and is more expensive than most, but the style does a fabulous job of keeping the fly mask away from the horses' eyes. I'm in Florida, and it seems that the extra space keeps the horses a little cooler. The material is loosely weaved but tough. Because of the band that keeps it away from the horses' eyes, you can't crunch up the fly mask. It holds up just fine to hang on a fence and hit with a hose. When not in use, you can lay it flat in sort of a semi-circle, but it is a little bulkier than most. Well worth the bulkiness! If you don't have netting on your trailer windows, this fly mask would be wonderful for traveling because the wind won't push the fly mask against the horses' eyes and face. I selected the oatmeal color because I just don't like white fly masks. I always put fly masks over my eyes in order to judge visibility and clarity, and I liked that I could see quite well through it. Do keep in mind that it runs very large. My horses are all about 16 hand Thoroughbreds, and the horse size was much too large for what I consider to be their big heads. The cob size fit them well. My horses didn't like the extra nose piece, and it's easy enough to remove it from the Velcro attachment. For light-skinned horse noses, this would be an added bonus.
I have a large (17.3) warmblood with a typical large head. While he doesn't wear an oversized halter or bridle, he has a head that fits his body. This mask's straps are almost too big for him. The mask fits; the straps are a little long. I do not use it with a halter. Otherwise, it is PERFECT. I love that it is pulled away from his eyes and face. I love that it includes a detachable nose cover. I love that it includes ear covers. He goes out in this mask and it stays on. Five stars for the design; three for the strap length. If the straps could be adjusted tighter, this would be five stars. I would still buy it again
The nose extension was too long and my horse has a normal to long face. I customized the nose portion to my horse using regular scissors and sewing machine and I made a fringe out of the mesh and put in contours to provide maximal coverage but improve aeration at the nostrils. I also had to move the velcro keepers over to give more room for my horses head. Once I made those adjustments, which were easy to do, the fit and function have been great Oh, I do suggest one other thing: I think there should be an opening for the forelocks to be pulled through and allowed to be outside of the mask I have not configured that yet myself but I am thinking about it. Sorry I did not think of getting a photo but I think my nose extension adaptations turned out pretty cool, if I may say so myself.
I bought this mask because I was tired of all the other masks that would, with time, end up rubbing on my horses eyes. I loved that this one had a band that would keep it away from his eyes. The problem is the placement of that band. On my horse, it goes right across his field of vision. He couldn't see well because of that band, and he was very spooky with it on.
I'm not sure when it happened, but the quality in these masks dropped terribly. I use this style for my blind horse to protect her eyes. I used to use 1 mask a year, now I'm going through them ever other month. This last mask I ordered fell apart after 1 month. Unbelievable! For the price, they are so cheap. For years I've found this style for helpful. What a disappointment.
