Ravensburger Wonder Woman: Challenge of the Amazons Cooperative Strategy Board Game for Ages 10+

This is a really great game and plays really well no matter how many players you are playing with. It is set up to adjust the difficulty based on the number of players and because there are multiple villains it has great replay ability! It is a co op game so it is really great with the kids because you can help them develop a good strategy. We easily learned it by watching the how to video on you tube and a few references to the book. Dont let that fool you though because it is a real challenge to win. The villains are tough and exciting! I received a copy for my honest opinion and we love it! One round is never enough, especially when the pesky villains win!

I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. Wonder Woman Challenge of the Amazons is an absolute must for any Wonder Woman fan and is really like 3 games in 1! The quality and attention to detail certainly makes this game one to be admired. It is a cooperative game, so everyone plays against whichever villain you choose, but each villain is different in the way they use their pieces and how you go about defeating them (hence the 3 games in 1). Strategy is key, however each time you play the villain's attack can be radically different based off the cards that are drawn, so be ready to adapt. It is admittedly a complex game that has quite a few steps involved, but the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Also if you're more of a visual leaner “Watch it Played” has a great YouTube video explaining the basics. The recommendations say 10 and up but our 12 year old son had a deer in the headlights expression on his face while we were going through the rules with him and ultimately chose not to play with us, so be mindful this is definitely a mature board game.

Ravensburger continues it win streak with another solid strategy game with broad thematic appeal that has a little something for everybody. Fair amount of advanced strategy and planning during this game, so it really is meant for older kids (10+ is probably right on.) This game is COOPERATIVE, so you'll be planning your actions and working together to stop an invasion of your home island. You win or lose as a team. The art design is really well done as I've now come to expect from these higher-end Ravensburger games. Gameplaywise, the game moves really nicely and provides some interesting decision-making opportunities for players. You must manage defending your island from a growing invading force, traveling around to collect neccessary victory components, and attacking the main villain in an effort to ultimately defeat the foe. There is also an interesting mechanic where you get to discuss and choose from some visible options each turn via face up cards, but then each player looks at their own face down cards and can change their mind based on these hidden options. I really liked this element of surprise and the feeling that you still had some individual options to "go rogue" during this part of your turn. There is an element of luck involved with card draws and how the enemy actions are decided. This isn't your typical pick-up-and-play game that you grab on a whim for a half-hour session. All players really need to be committed to the experience and willing to spend the time to understand the rules and work together. With the right group though, this game will be a great addition to your collection! I received an early review copy of the game and these are my honest opinions!

In this game, you will work together which may be a much needed reprieve for couples or families who are feeling bit on edge and need a break from direct competition. The game-play is fun with a lot of replay value. There's a bit of a learning curve but you can easily find how to play videos online which is always easier to me than just reading a rule book. There is some strategy involved which makes this a thinker, not just a simple luck based game. I'm already looking forward to playing this one again. I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion. Ok, so I dont play cooperative games much, but in general I like them. This one however is a little different as there are parts to the game where you arent able to consult with the other players, so it also requires some advanced planning and strategy on the players part. Another great thing about this game is that it will take a very long time (if not forever) to get board playing it. 3 villains with different difficulty levels as well as all the different heroes and relics make it a different game every time. When I first played the game it was a little confusing as there are many moving parts to keep track of, but there is an excellent YouTube channel that shows the basics of the game and then you can interpret any unclear rules as you see fit. It is also easy to unintentionally cheat by not doing something or doing something in the wrong order. Again this will sort itself out as you play the game. There are definitely some different strategies to use for the different villains. Be careful with extra warriors when playing against Ares. When playing against Cheetah you will want the warriors, I also recommend Mala for one of the heros here. Cierce is by far the hardest and will kill you fast, especially if you dont have the lasso of truth. All in all, this is a fun strategy and cooperative game. Probably best suited for older kids (Im thinking teenagers) and adults. Be prepared to spend at least an hour or more playing. If youre like me you will probably loose the first couple of times, but once you win you will be hooked.

We received this game in exchange for our honest review. We can honestly say this game is one of our new favorite cooperative games. The reason being when playing these types of games, there tends to be an alpha-player who dictates play. Wonder Woman is brilliant in dissolving that aspect, by breaking up the planning/prep stage for the players into two parts. The first part is open discussion between players. After discussing their known options, players go into 'solo-mode' and use the information on additional 'private' cards to decide their individual plan on how to best contribute to the overall battle against the villain. There are 3 villains available to challenge. Each are impressive. The designers of the game did a wonderful job in diversifying each villain and increasing the challenge for each one. Furthermore, the number of players has very little impact to the difficulty of the game. Playing a 2 player game is just as difficult as playing with 5. With that said, the more people there are, the more interaction there is and the more fun there is. Initially, we were not impressed with the components at all, which surprised us since Ravensburger is known for their high quality components. The cards were very difficult to spread and seemed to stick to one another. The hero figurines are impressively delicate and detailed; so much so, that Artemis lost the top of her battle axe to our 2 year old within seconds of being pulled from the box. Fortunately, customer service delivered in sending a replacement Artemis right away, so she doesn't look so useless anymore. Also, after playing several games, the cards became much easier to deal and shuffle. The box insert is great in that there is a place for everything. Our only disappointment, if you can even call it that, is that with the hero figurines being so incredible, we expected the villains design to be as equal in caliber. Unfortunately, they are 2 dimensional cardboard pictures that are placed in a plastic stand. With that said, all parts are well made and get our strong stamp of approval. Overall, this is a fantastic game and is one that is great for those with strategic minds.

I received a copy of the game in exchange for my opinion. My wife and I had a chance to play the game yesterday. We thought it was a pretty fun game. We like that with the different characters and enemies, the game has a lot of replay-ability, so the value of the game is rather high. We wish that we could have played it with more people. I think that would have made it more fun vs just two people. This game is not for the young players who don't understand the strategy part of the game. I do like that even though it's a co-op game, one person can't tell people what to do like Pandemic. Choosing your three cards by yourself adds a fun way to play the game. It took us about two hours to play the game the first time, but I think that without looking at the rules at the beginning, it would maybe cut 45 minutes.

We received our copy in exchange for our honest opinion. The game play isn't too complex, but certainly requires some strategy and planning. It's a fun co-op with interesting choices. It took us a bit to ensure that we were playing it right, but after a couple of plays the game is quite fun. My only complaint would be that the cards are not the best quality and are difficult to handle/shuffle. Other than that, the rest of the components are fine. There are also other characters/villains which allows for more replay-ability. Not allowing your teammates to discuss at certain points of the game helps with eliminating the alpha gamer, too. All in all a good, solid effort by Ravensburger!

Likes: - The cooperative aspect of this game is a nice as opposed to always playing against other players. It is a nice change of pace and offers a new dynamic. There are some points of the game for solo strategy so there is opportunity to work alone at point and it can add to variability. - The YouTube video by "Watch It Played" is extremely helpful for initial set-up and play, especially for visual learners. - There are 3 different villains which afford some variation and re-playability and each has a different difficulty level so you can somewhat tailor your play to the participants. - There is an appendix provided for additional help as well as a section on "Increasing the Difficulty" for additional variation. - The physical game and pieces are good and the graphics are nice. The organization of the game materials is nice as sometimes this is a missed step and the boxes become a mess. Dislikes: - There is a learning curve to the set up and beginning game play as there are many moving parts; but this is not unusual for strategy games. The minimum age of 10 may be a little low, but could depend on the specific 10 year old playing. - Over time, the game may become predictable with only 3 villains but I am sure expansion packs could remedy this issue easily. - Some of the pieces are made with thick cardboard, and while adequate, they could have been done better in different materials. All in all a very fun and attractive cooperative game!
