As the title reads! Buy yourself an RDS transfer tank! Do not buy any of those cheap knock offs!!! the instructions were tiny, but that didn't stop me installing this within 30 minutes!
Had a mix up and got the wrong tank…customer service was outstanding!!! Karen and Christa jumped in and fixed the issue with the manufacturer…will purchase from Northern again…
I had no problems installing the Combo Box, the tank was very clean on inside, pump and hose fit fine ( you do have to wind the hose a couple of times but I have no kinking problems). After mounting in 2015 Silverado 1 ton, I thought it might ridle a little but not a sound. I'm very pleased with this product. I did not use the mfg. wire, I use #8 also put a outlet inside of box for lights and power.
Purchased this after contemplating the larger 95 gallon version... but I didn't want to take up too much bed space in my pickup, so I decided this was the best version, the 60 gallon. While I'm a DIY guy, I'm also safety conscious and wanted to do what the instructions said: have a "certified mechanic" install. I did just that, shipped it right to the auto shop and my favorite mechanic installed it. Less than $175 to install, including parts & tax. It installed as instructions indicted, fit great, all mounting bolts included. Included fuel gauge seems to work great, not perfect - it is an 'old school' mechanical device with a foam float, but as expected and works well. I did purchase an automatic shut off fuel dispenser handle separately (sold here by Northern Tool), despite warnings in documentation indicating only a manual fuel dispenser (as included) will work. Automatic shut off dispenser works perfectly, although it does not fit in the cradle. But works perfectly and no problem about cradle, it still fits in the tool box and the door closes easily. I wasn't a big fan of the big RDS logo, as this would make it easier for people to figure out it contains fuel, so I pulled it off...a little goo gone, and perfect! Great product, thanks RDS!!!
I bought one for my company supplied 4500 Dodge back in 2013. I lived in a subdivision that didn't allow commercial vehicles. I liked the Idea the fuel hoses and pump were concealed giving a cleaner look and it didn't interfere with the goose neck trailer. After I retired I bought a 5th wheel travel trailer and a 3500 Dodge, the truck tank limits my travel distance pulling the trailer and I wanted more range. The previous tank worked flawlessly making my decision to get the same tank easy. I have a fuel card and feel foolish putting in 25 some gallons at a truck stop. I haven't received my new tank yet but look forward to our first trip in the spring not having to worry about looking for fuel stops. The tool box is perfect for carrying the necessary tools and lubricants and not to big for useless junk. I chose this type over a gravity transfer tank as I have a diesel garden tractor that makes it easier to fill. Supposed to take delivery late January can't wait.
fits nice in my 2016 Ram 3500. Tank doesn't Quite hold 60 gal. maybe 57 however if you fill it all the way to the top the overflow tube runs fuel all over the back of the pickup. so I only put about 50 gal. in it. pump and hose works great for filling small equipment. the hose doesn't have enough room so it is always kinked. I put a swivel on the nozzle end and fixed that problem. 8 gal/ minute pump is perfect for filling pickup or small tractors would be to slow for big stuff. really nice to be able to lock it up and nobody even knows you have a pump on it. excellant tank for my uses
Love the concept of having the fuel pump hid and secure under the locking lid - primary reason I bought this model. Box looks good sitting in my truck and storage / tool box is pretty good size - big enough to hold chains and ratchets I use in connection with my equipment trailer. OK, a few items that could be improved: Like others, I put a swivel connector on the fuel hose but fuel nozzle is still difficult to attach and remove from the holder...needs about another inch or two of space to work with. The wiring sent with the package is too short for use on my F350 supercrew....need about 4-5 more feet. Finally, the lock on the tool box was not aligned when it arrived and had to be adjusted. None of these it are deal breakers and all can be fixed by the user with a little time and money. That said, the tool box with shipping is some $1,400 and for that price one expects the very best in overall functionality and quality. Still a great concept and I'd recommend.
Good product easy install. No damage to unit upon opening. Totally agree with other customers on company needs to add swivel, couple of feet of electric wire, hose for breather and throw some grommets in. Would have been a complete install with no running around!
Tank installed easily and came with an install kit including a fuse for the fuel pump, foam tape for mounting between the bed and the tank, 3 bolts with springs and washers to mount the tank to the bed. The depth of the toolbox is much more useful than the other transfer tanks with tiny 4" depth. The only thing that should be added is a swivel between the hose and the nozzle as the hose gets kinked when pulling the nozzle out or putting the nozzle back in the fuel tank.
Terrible experience. Ordered 2 months ago and still dont have working product. 1st one arrived damage 4 weeks after order. No communication about solution. No refund offered. Now waiting on another to arrive and tracking info not available. Wish I could get my money back and move on
