Was walking through a Fleet Farm and found one of these in their bargain bin. Gold color. Hey, good size for trout. Bought it, threw it in the tackle box and forgot about it. That early fall fishing with fatheads and a slip bobber with absolutely no fish in the boat, went rummaging through the tackle box and saw it. Figured, what the hey, tied it on and first cast a decent Brookie nailed it. Caught 30+ fish in under three hours with this lure. Was it a fluke? Nope. The next year opening weekend, cold, sleet, camping, on the water half the day with nothing to show for it. Landed the canoe, walked to camp grabbed my ultralight with this tied on walked to the water and got my limit in less than ten casts.
Hello my friends. This little lure is an amazing panfish lure. For some reason it drives the bluegill to strike. If I could only have one hard bait in my box for panfish it would be the Rebel Raider. This small bait casts like a dream on ultralight gear and sinks at the perfect rate. Many of your strikes will come on the pause and sink right after the lure hits the water. My only advice is to make sure you have a few because if you have only one and you loose it, it will be hard to find another hard bait in your box to pick up where this one left off. God Bless.
What a hidden gem. They seem to be discontinued so better grab 'em when and where you can. You need to see this thing in action to appreciate it. Drops perfectly level on light line with the most subtle rocking shimmy. Casts like a bullet even in the wind. Pictures don't do the colors justice, they have a multi faceted layered color thing that shows different hues as the light and viewing angle changes. Anyone that has them already knows what I'm talking about. I replace the stock #12 trebles with #8 inline single hooks. The stock trebles are plenty sticky, in lines are a bit more weedless and easier to unhook from small mouths.
Casts wonderfully, and fish just slam this thing. I've caught crappie, bluegill, and bass on it so far. Spectacular jerk bait action that darts all over. Moderately slow sinking with a wobble that creates subtle flash, or suspends where it's at if you are twitching it around. Possibly the best micro/ultra light/bfs jerk bait here on lurenet. I got one of these in the monthly Bank&Creek bags earlier this year and have bought a handful since. I've caught fish in heavy pressured areas with it too, it stays in an area longer than a crank bait or spinner and seems to get great reaction strikes.
Bought this in a bargain bin a few months ago (brown and black). Finally tied it on today to try for brookies. These are native, wild brookies. In three hours of fishing caught and released over 20 of these fish with an average length of 9 to 11 inches. In one hole alone I hauled out about fifteen. Killer lure and now a Top 5 for me.
I have used the brown/black and silver/black with great success on bluegill and bass on the limestone creeks here in north Texas. The silver in particular has a bluish, purple iridescent hue to it as it moves in the sunlight. Can't wait to try it on trout in the Rockies next summer. Great product.
Fish don't seem to hesitate inhaling this plug. Nailed a fat 17 inch smallmouth last time I used it. I'm going to upsize the rear treble to a size 10, and add some flash material to it like some Rapalas. They should make some larger sizes.
I bought one of these to have a smaller selection in the tackle box and used it to troll behind my kayak down the river. Ended up catching 4 fish by adding a split shot weight to keep it submerged while I paddled.
A bit pricey for what it is but I have been able to make it work to get bites when nothing else could. The lack of an internal rattle makes for a more finesse presentation in pressured waters where the bass might be more wary. Overall doesn't hurt to have one in your tackle box.
This lure was difficult to find, but I'm glad I did. I haven't tried it for trout, but I have for bluegills, crappie, and perch. Just toss it out and count it down or let it sink to the bottom and then give it 4 or 5 quick twitches, then pause, twitch, pause, another series of quick twitches, and so on. You will catch plenty of bass with this lure, but bluegills, redear, and perch hammer it. The only complaint I have is that it can be difficult to get really long casts, but no more than with any other lure that is this light.I love using lures for bluegills because a)I catch fewer really small fish, b)they can't swallow them, and c)no having to buy, dig, or catch live bait and keep it alive. They're great for when I'm not sure if I'll be fishing for bass or something else.
