This device is well worth the money if mosquitos like you and they like me. They don't seem to like my wife but it seems to help me a lot. Caution - I think that the flat black color absorbs heat from the sun which results in the repellent evaporating even when turned off if it is left in the sun. I went through the first cartridge in less than a month even though only using it in early am and late evening because I left it out in the sun during the day. I now move it into the shade when off.
Haven't used yet. The previous one I bought worked amazing. I will give kudos to the extraordinary service received when contacting the company regarding an older device where the battery stopped charging altogether (roughly 2 yr old one that wasn't in production anymore). I was mailed a code for replacement to a newer model. After 1st email to CS I was promptly replied to w some trouble shooters, to which I replied didn't work for me. I was informed the battery needs recharging every 2-3 months even when not in use, and as I live in an area w four seasons, I had not kept it charged after the summer/early fall so I'm sure that was the problem. Even still, I was sent a code for a brand new one w/shipping included after explaining the trouble shooting tips didn't work. Excellent service.
We happened to attempt sitting outside on the day the repeller arrived. The mosquitoes chased us back inside. About an hour later, the repeller arrived and we tried it out. We were comfortable for the next two hours weeding the garden not 20 feet away from where we were earlier.
Love NOT being bitten. I use this everywhere: out back, the winery, church. This is an amazing unit. I even have one to keep by the back door so when I go in, there are not bugs near the porch light. It's the best invention! Plus, no smell, no fire. I love it.
I'm a fan. I believe this really works. The proof? I get mosquitos bites if I stand in my front yard for more than 5 minutes. When I bring my Thermacell out into the backyard when I am raking and pulling weeds I can take up to an hour and I have zero mosquito bites. So, I do believe it works.
I used three of these under a 20' x 40' tent with open sides in a heavily mosquito-infested wooded area in Michigan in the evening of a very wet summer. People were getting destroyed the night before in this spot, but as soon as my Thermacells heated up, the bugs were just gone...all of them. With the perimeter up and running, any insect that wandered too close would literally fall out of the sky. They work incredibly well and I love not having to replace butane cartridges. It's also really convenient that the cartridges last 36 hours. If you have easy access to recharge them, these are the way to go.
I'm not sure what's in it, but it does work. I wish there was more information on whether this kills butterflies and bees too because we use it on our patio which has a pollinator garden surrounding it. We may be killing all the helpful bugs too. :( That being said, this device does work. We don't get any mosquito bites while using it.
My wife loves it; not so much myself. She claims it works wonders while I'm still getting eaten alive. Three of us on the patio last night; my wife and brother Jim never had a single bite, myself on the other hand was getting eaten alive. I guess I'm just a mosquito magnet; go figure.
Lots of good things here. Easy to charge and monitor as the choice of lights and patterns is good. What makes it mixed bag for me is that it is easy to rollover. And the liquid in the middle it can get oily. Works well on a table of other protected area so we will be keeping/enjoying it.
I tried the Thermascell now a few times and I did see some mosquitos (and flies) in the 'dome'. Also I have the feeling that mosquitos will still be there under the table outside while the thermascell is on the table outside. The thermascell produces some sort of damp, mist, which is subjected to even the slightest wind. Not convinced about the effectiveness, but I'll keep trying as I also bought a refill.
