Red Heart Amigurumi Crochet Kit, Molly the Octopus

Such afu n project for my mom, while she's in recovery. She loved to crochet when I was younger and this has been a great refresher. I really like that everything comes in the kit. Great buy, for an even greater price.

So easy to follow along and finished my Teddy in one evening. Now I want the entire collection.

Note: I am a beginner at crochet. Someone had given me a beginner crochet kit a month ago, and despite my thinking I was too old to learn a new skill, I enjoyed it so much that I picked up a few Red Heart kits when I saw them. So I'm posting this from a beginner prospective. The yarn quality for this kit left a little to be desired, but I just shrugged and used regular red heart tan/beige yarn instead and I loved the result. The pattern is fantastic. So are the instructions, once you get into the flow of things. The lady doing this tutorial is fantastic. I love her personality and the way she explains things. She made things easier for me to understand, and I felt more confident by the end. My llama is absolutely adorable. I love the way it came out. All in all, my only "meh" is the yarn in the kit - and honestly, it might have been operator error on that one. However, everything else is wonderful, and I just substituted a different yarn.

Pretty easy pattern, however, there was not enough yarn to finish the project. Making magic circles seems to take up more yarn that a chain does. I had to add yellow yarn and did not have enough brown to make the body marks.

I'm still working on the first of a few simple amigurumi I purchased to learn how to do this. The kit is complete with appropriate yarn for the gauge, hook, marker, embroidery and appliqué materials as well as instructions, which do require some familiarity with the tradition. The patterns are cute and seem true to the photos.

The instructions were very easy to understand (I usually need to follow a video tutorial!) And worked up quickly. I was pretty disappointed to have run out of yarn on the body of the lion so had to substitute some wool for the mane and tail. I also came up short on the white so his muzzle was a little small. Regardless, my granddaughter loved her lion and wants me to make the Eddy the Bear and Ross the Elephant kits that I ordered. Hopefully there will be enough materials!

I bought this kit to do while on a vacation since it was to have everything needed. However when I opened it there was no crochet hook. I did make the kitten when I got home and got a hook and to turned out very cute. My suggestion is to make sure everything is there if you plan to take it with you somewhere.

I wish there were a video. I'm a long-time crocheter, but I can't figure out some of the written instructions.

The pattern is cute but the yarn is terrible for amigurumi. The yarn is stranded and splitty. After trying several different types of crochet hooks I gave up trying to make this toy with this yarn. Red Heart brand items are known for value at a price people can afford but this yarn disappoints.

I'm a quilter/sewer/knitter and I thought it would be fun to try my hand at crochet with this kit. I was really disappointed, Not beginner friendly at all, poor diagrams, poor instructions. The yarn is 100% cotton and tricky to work with, and the crochet hook is a tiny 2.5mm. Save your money and don't buy this kit.
