We got this as a whole-house backup as a "greener" alternative to gas generators. It's an impressive unit, and manufactured very well. It's pretty obvious from the first moment this is a really serious unit. Although we don't have a solar array yet, the solar inverter was an important feature for us in the future. Currently, we have 2 additional batteries connected for a total of 10KW, which gives us 3-4 days of backup capability. For our area, winds and storms cause enough power outages that we wanted some backup, and so far this unit has performed really well. In the recent outage, we were able to still complete our laundry (it's a gas dryer that only uses 110V). The only challenge I found was getting the app to see everything correctly, and it's because I wasn't following some very exact instructions, so even though its tempting to just fire up the app and let it connect by default, you won't get all the functionality. Another fantastic thing is that the batteries in it look easily replaceable. It's nicely built with shelves inside for the same batteries as plug in externally. When powered via AC input, it's clear that it has bypass capabilities, so I'm assuming the same is true for solar. I love that this unit can act as the power unit for an off-grid home, which is one of the future scenarios we have in mind. A few minor improvements that I'd love to see is (1) adding more details in the app like knowing if any battery has the heater function enabled, and other deeper system details; (2) WIFI capability; (3) some type of sleep mode for the inverter to go into ultra-low power mode. If the inverter is left on, the drain on the batteries is non-trivial, so it needs topping off every so often, or to be shut down. But overall, I find these pretty minor given what a great unit this is and how capably it handles powering our whole house during outages. In my mind, a terrific value for bringing a lot of things together into a single unit.
Awesome all in on solution with upgrade ability and expandability. It is pretty heavy, so make sure you have help or an appliance hand truck to move it.
I live off grid and this product give me the chance to do that
Beautiful piece of equipment. Well engineered. Very practical. Exactly what I was looking for.
Extremely easy set up, simple wiring requirements, bluetooth monitoring is EXCELLENT!
The Lycan 5000 Power Box is a great Solar generator. I highly recommend it for anyone living off grid.
I purchased this a month ago to use as a UPS for my networking gear and then weekends when I travel with a sound system instead of a gas generator. The parts are really well integrated, there are rubber gaskets around all the doors, water sealing seems solid. Overall build quality is quite high and the price is not too much higher than a comparable DIY solution.
I purchased my first Lycan5000 a few months ago along with a couple of extra batteries. I liked it so much that I have purchased 2 more in the past months (for different locations). I love clean design of the weatherproof enclosure. Very easy to set up and use!
The Lycan 5000 serves as our off grid home solar back up generator. Should our main solar system ever fail this thing has got our backs! I highly recommend this for any off grid/camping adventure!
