What's to be said? It works as advertised. Actually, it works like a charm, and it's easy to set up.
I bought this kit a year ago, to run lights and small power tools in my shed. While all was good, i quickly upgraded to a much larger charge controller to run 800watts in total and run a larger battery back. I will be adding 6 more panels to my shed for a total of 1400watts, and plan on using this charge controller in parallel with my Morning Star. Overall great buy would recommend.
hello. here's what's happening. since my plan was to expand, the pwm is fine because i'll be running 2 systems eventually. when can afford, gonna get a 40amp mppt later along w/2 more panels to run 2x3 in series/6 total panels. then 1 or 2 panels more to use the pwm separately later. which will obviously need more batteries. unless i switch from the (eventual) 600w to the 100-200w using the same bank. so, in closing my thesis, as far as the 30amp pwm? very use/such handy. thanks. doge
I purchased this kit about 7 years ago for an off grid camp. The kit is relatively simple to put together. I use this with golf cart batteries and an inexpensive inverter I can run a shallow well pump, led lights, led tv, small power tools and so much more but you must be conservative in your use. I did not care for the charge control that came with the kit so I replaced it within a year with a Kid control. I have the panels facing west as the property is on a lake and I can't cut a clearing due to shore land zoning and I am happy with the amount of power it gives. Considering the price of the kit you can't beat it for an entry into solar especially if you have a building with no access to the grid.
I bought this beginning last summer. Took about a day to install with two power inverters. Worked very well. Only issue was fuse blown between panels and controller. It was able too keep my AGM batteries charged with no problem, but I'm upping my system to lithium batteries this next summer. I would buy ships system again.
Very nice kit. A wiring diagram would of been nice but I can just look it up on the internet.. A inline fuse would of been nice to add to the kit, and it taking a extra 2 weeks to get one shipped it was a little hassle.
The panels are quality and function as they should. I'm pleased with the transaction. The couple things that bothered me, my fault, the Wanderer controller is the bottom of the line. Spend the few extra bucks and upgrade to the MPPT controller which not only performs better it has display stats. Then you dont waste money buying a seperate voltage display monitor like me. The only thing I dont like about the kit is the "Y" connectors. Instead of having an 8 panel or even a 4 panel junction block you have these individual "Y" connectors that plug into each other. When you connect them all together you have a glob of a 10 inch triangle to deal with. Not only an eyesore you have to figure out how to secure them to your roof. I ended up hog tying them with cable ties to a rack I had on the roof. There is a better solution with a junction block.
You would have gotten 5 stars if the cables attached to the panels were at least a foot longer. I had to go out and buy extra cable so I didn't have to place them right next to each other. At least put a note in there that the customer WILL NEED extra cable in order to separate the panels. Other than that, they were very easy to install and I got exactly what I ordered.
The only improvements that could be made are: 1) The cables on the panels could be longer. I wanted to install the panels in 1 row next to each other with the cables run to the center. Due to the shortness of the cables the only way to mount them, without buying additional cables, is in a 2x2 grid with the cables in the center. 2) Which cable is Positive and Negative could be marked better. The marking is a small easily overlooked + or - molded into the plugs. 3) Include a copy of the wiring diagram. Its available on the website but a hard copy would be nice.
Shipped on time, but anable to register warranty on line, called Renogy got their call center which was very chaotic, you could hear all their agents talking in the background. Agent was unable to complete warranty registration on line, said she would do a paper registration and send me an email, which i haven't received. Had to ask for a name and case number. Still no warranty registration. Can Walmart contact Renogy for warranty?
