I never thought that I would put a tonneau cxover on my truck. . . my son in law put the Retrax Pro on his truck and I liked it. I bought one for my F250 and I love it!! Although it is quite pricey. Keeps contents dry and safe from prying eyes. It works so smoothly.
Really good product. Two things that I found that could use a little help is the drain lines. They're not very good. And the seal that goes between the tailgate and the top takes a little while to shape to your tailgate could be a little bit better made or else. The product is fantastic. I would recommend it to other people. Those two little things that I mentioned are very minor issues. One was fixable just by changing the hoses the other fixed itself more or less.
This tonneau will work great with my Yakima rack system. There were a couple of other possibilities but the style and build fit what I was looking for. The installation was fairly easy and except for lifting the rack rails and canister with a friend, I completed the install solo. Looks really nice and works great. Smooth operation of the tonneau makes it a delight to open and close.
I really like the cover. It was super easy to install in my 4th gen Tacoma Limited. RealTruck even had reducer line on the drains to fit the factory drain holes, cut to the length needed. It makes no noise in the wind and is as sturdy as they promised. If I had any criticism other than the inevitable 10-11” of bed space it takes up, it would be to have a keyless lock release from under the cover. That way you wouldn't need the key every time. The other would be to include alternate drain location recommendations in the guaranteed fit trucks instructions. While it's super easy to just use the factory drains, I only have one of three left. I'll need to relocate the drain tubes, or drill additional floor drains. Either way the cover feels top of the line, and RealTrucks videos and instructions make it super easy to install on the Tacoma rails.
5 Stars to customer service!!! One star dropped off due to the following: The first two covers arrived with damaged end caps and had to be returned. The third cover had no damage, but the rail hardware was missing—likely due to the rail box end breaking open during transit, causing parts to fall out. Although the shipping box states, 'Do not stand or drop on end,' let's be honest—shipping companies don't read these warnings. Bottom line (and I hope Retrax is paying attention): The 1- to 2-inch EPS endcap foam is insufficient to protect a canister of this mass. Additionally, a simple washer on the endcap screws would help distribute impact forces, reducing stress on the plastic endcap.
The Realtruck install YouTube video goes step-by-step installing on Ford pickup. Unfortunately, my truck isn't a Ford. So the cover mounting hardware is different. The hardware comes unassembled with no instructions on how to assemble. So it was a puzzle to figure out how it all went together.
Decided to spend more and upgrade to a top tier model. Cover was shipped without hardware kit and had to wait an extra week for it to arrive before could install. When finally installing, noticed the rolling cover side case panel was crakes on one side and the actual bed cover has a scratch. The rubber stops on the end of the rails also looked faded. Generally looks like a nice cover just disappointing on the quality of cover when spending this much money.
A little upset with the product. I've had the Retrax in the past and I believe it's way better quality for less money. When I opened the box and started to put it together, bed rails and the canister cover were bent. I had to true them myself just to make it work. My package was missing multiple screws and missing the plastic retainers for the tangs. The so called caulking that was provided was melted together so I was unable to use. Maybe I just got a bad package but they should consider securing and padding the product better.
First unit I received was broken. Replaced with new unit but sent with no hardware. Quality control needs work for sure. Been 3 weeks since original order and still waiting on call so that the hardware can be sent. Currently just a $2,700 paper weight
Gen 3 Colorado [GM] with the stow tailgate (may be part of the issue). This leaks horribly, along the rails and edges i the rain, not just car washes. Needs an inch of foam at front and back to seal, dont know how long it will last. Also wont square to the bed, so needs additional sealant under the rails. Doesnt lock, can be slid with one hand even when "locked". Its horrible that this is over $2k. Do not recommend and won't be buying any products like this in the future. I came from a Fiberglass Tonneau which never leaked or have issues for security in 15 years. Customer service was helpful, only reason for 1 star.
