Richell Convertible Indoor/Outdoor Pet Playpen

I have a miniature pinscher who doesn't like to go outside and get her pretty little princess paws wet when she needs to go potty, so instead, she chooses my living room carpet! I have tried soooo many pet gates as a solution to block her off from going into my living room. My requirements are: 1. It had to have various configuration options, because I knew I would be using it for other purposes, as well. 2. It had to have a gate for me to easily walk through. 3. I didn't want a wall-mount system that came with hardware to mount as a permanent solution. I wanted this to be portable. 4. I needed it to be high enough to keep her out of the living room, but not so high that it over-powered the ambience of the living room. I ordered this product (4 panels, 20 inches high, with one gate)and it arrived within just a few days. I unpackaged it, and had it set up in less than five minutes! Wow! I knew I had scored! It met all of my requirements, and even exceeded them. However ... the total length was about four inches too short for the area I needed it to block ... so I ordered another set, and extended the gate to meet my needs. I love the fact that I can make this as long as I want. I would highly recommend this for anyone with a dog that is less than 15 pounds. A larger dog could step or jump over it.

I wrote a review in August of 2015, when I purchased a 24"" high Richell playpen for my miniature pinscher. I liked it so much, I purchased a second set for times when I need a little longer barrier. My son just rescued a lab mix from our local Humane Society, When they come to my place to visit, ""Charlie"" (the dog) just scoffs at my 24"" high gate that I use for my min pin, and springs right over it. I knew there was only one thing to do...get the taller (36"" high) Richell convertible playpen. The tall one just arrived yesterday, and has all of the same features as the shorter version. I had it unpacked and set up in five minutes. Regardless of the size you get/need, one of the best uses I have found for this is to create a barrier to my front door. The dogs tend to want to run to the door when the doorbell rings and scamper out the door as soon as I open it. If you look at the photo I've included, you'll see the front door on the right edge of the picture. On Halloween night, I would leave my dog behind the gate, which allowed me to answer the door and focus on the trick-or-treaters as I gave them their candy, rather than chasing after my dog who escaped! The other reason I'm including a photo is that it demonstrates the difference in heights between the short and tall version. My son's lab mix dog is 63 pounds, and the tall version is great for him. The short version is great for my 12-pound min pin. I see that Hayneedle is having a clearance on these. I hope they don't intend to discontinue them. These are the best solutions at a great price!

Exactly what I wanted! I have a doggie play area in our lower level. I wanted the fencing to be sturdy yet moveable. This gate system is perfect! I've purchased SIX 6 panel sections so far. The 36 inch height is ideal for the range of dogs we have visiting here daily!

I have a chihuahua who LOVES adventure and needed something to block the front door so he wouldn't run out when it was opened. It had to be large enough for someone to open the door, enter the house then close the door behind them. This product was PERFECT. I assembled it into a modified L shape. It is freestanding so I don't have to worry about holes in the wall and it keeps my chi guy safe.

we needed a short gate to keep med size dogs from our new living room carpet, we have tried soooo many gates, and none were long enough, short enough and so on, it stands by itself as long as the ends are turned in or on some angle, it wont free stand strait, it has 3 positions, 45 degree 90 degree or strait, so looking at the picture it shows ends at a 90 angle, they will also 45 which worked out perfect in a 13'6 entry, we bought the 6 panel short gate, its just easy to step over, our dogs aren't jumpers, so no problem. it snaps together easy, it does have a door, but we don't use it, if you have searched for a gate, you cant beat this for the price, no more wooden gates. I would suggest saving the box if you ever plan to store it

I rarely write reviews, but this product deserves a mention! I have bought lots of pens and containment systems in the past but this is he best, most versatile yet. I bought 2 of these playpens to confine my dog for several months after ACL surgery. I ended up using 6 panels and a gate as his daytime enclosure. I set it up with no panel where our patio door is so that I could easily take him out for potty breaks (pen would be even sturdier without the missing panel). Our other dog is a door dasher so I used the extra panels and gate as a barrier for her at our front door. Many things to love about this gate. It is strong enough and tall enough (35 inches high) to contain my 65 pound golden retriever and to keep the other two golden retrievers separated from him. Each panel is lightweight enough to be quickly and easily assembled without any tools. Can be set up in many different configurations and easily reconfigured. The gate is easy for humans to open and swings both in and out. Pen can be used inside or outdoors. Does not show scratches from dog toenails. Easy to clean off food or water if you have a messy dog. These pens will have many uses even after my dog recovers from surgery. Excellent products for dog parents to have on hand!

I purchased this pet pen for its quality, ability to be reconfigured, move ability, durability, and appearance. We have two 8yr old sedate Shih Tzus who are often pestered to the point of being nipped and bitten by a year old, playful Lhasa puppy. For the safety of all three (and my mental health) I use this pen to separate them when things are getting a ""little rough"". With toys, a bed, and water in with the puppy she's content and still can see the other ""siblings"" are in the same room with her. As a safety precaution we also place the pup in the pen when we leave the house for a few hours. The height is easy for me to step over when needed as well as to lift the pup in/out.(I chose the shorter height due to having small pets.) Finally, the pup has not been able to chew on the spindle portions as she has with our more beautiful and expensive wooden gates used to contain her to one room. I absolutely love EVERYTHING about Richell's convertible playpen. 1. The material is similar to Little Tike's plastic, so solid and able to take almost all abuse. 2. Instructions were easy to follow to assemble in less than 5 minutes by myself. 3. Hayneedle was quick to process and ship. Arrived with brown shipping box slightly damage, however, interior Richell box was pristine and could have been gifted without embarrassment. And, 4. After researching on the Internet Hayneedle had the lowest price on the item when purchased.

This pen is about the best we could find for our Portugese Water Dog BUT at 16 weeks old and 25 lbs, he was able to figure out how to jump up to push the door up and release the catch, therefore escaping easily from the playpen. BEWARE! We have had to purchase a metal chain and a lock to keep him in now because once learned, they don't forget!
