3000 miles overloaded @75mph and zero issues!

TruthandJustice September 2, 2013

I just returned from a round trip to Florida with the family and had more to take than I expected. Although slightly (30-40%) above the recommend weight capacity, the bag held up perfectly. No wear or tears at the strap connection points. No wear or scraping of the car thanks to good design. If you want to save mpg and room inside your vehicle, this is the right choice.

Great travel bag

Scott November 22, 2016

After the learning curve of installing, found it to be an awesome accessory. Loaded all of the additional luggage in it, place a 1" foam board across the bottom to help keep it open and to give it a better floor. Being on the back of our Chevy traverse it did not affect our gas mileage and it is out of the wind so there is no wear and tear from the wind. It rained a short rain and everything stayed dry. Travelled 1100 miles the first time we used it, works great.

Skeptical at first, but surprised at size

FolsomResident February 27, 2013

So when I first ordered this, I actually expected to return it right away because I thought it was not going to be big enough. The dimensions provided are in cubic feet, which is hard to translate to bag sized items. The bottom line is that I was able to get a LOT of things in this bag. It's not as "easy" as it makes it look to set up, but once you do, putting on and taking on is manageable. It is a little pricy compared to one of those back carriers that connect to your tow hitch, but then nice thing about this carrier is that you can attach it to your car and still use your tow hitch to tow your RV.

Got the job done.

Cincy2Myrtle January 6, 2013

We bought this item as an alternative to getting a hitch attached. The bag worked well. It rained the whole way home (12 hours) and everything stayed nice and dry. The bag does not take much of a shape though until its pretty fully loaded. I thought the plastic bottom listed would give it some rigidity but it really didn't as its very thin plastic. Overall though it worked for us and was a far more economical option than installing a hitch and buying a basket for the hitch.

Wonderful space saver for long trip

Doce November 2, 2011

Used this item on recent trip from Salt Lake City to Denver to Los Angeles to Arizona and it functioned wonderfully. Drove through two hours of snow/rain storm during first segment of our trip and the items on the bottom of the pack were a little damp, the rest of the items were dry. In Denver I decided to build a frame out of 1/2" pvc pipe to help shape the saddlebag. This helped a lot with packing the bag and securing it to our Honda Pilot.

I had one that goes on top of the luggage rack and was not thrilled with it (zipper came apart WHILE DRIVING and we lost a bag on the highway!). When I saw this one, I hoped it would work as well as I thought it would and would be as easy to pack and load. It was so easy to pack and strap onto the van! We put it up empty to get the straps the right length, etc., so when we packed it and straped it on, it was a snap! The only negative comment I have is I wish the sides and bottom were sturdier. We added some appliance-grade cardboard to the bottom, sides and front to make it more square. Otherwise, it rode beautifully! I was traveling with a friend and my 3 greyhounds, so I was a little apprehensive at first, but we had no trouble whatsoever!

Didn't Know it was there!

used2brouse October 23, 2012

This was very helpful on our trip, all our contents were safe and dry. Of course, we did buy a 49 gallon container to put inside should have been larger but that was the largest Wal-Mart had at the time. The main thing was that it didn't cause any type of wind resistence, and never new it was behind the car. Will use this again and again but with a larger bin.

GREAT CONCEPT - DIDN'T WORK

Rockbarn January 1, 2014

I have a 2011 Toyota Highlander and saw this product - how it would fit on the back - not the roof. I bought it, installed it, and loaded luggage into it, and headed north in heavy rain. It LEAKED! The license plate fits into a pocket on the outside - the pocket's seam was not completed and allowed water to enter and soaked our luggage. Moreover, the saddlebag moved/shifted with the highlanders movement - the saddle bag fabric rubbed our SUV's clear coat surface on the door hatch and has left unremovable scratches. I took it back.

Great for extra room

MomCamper July 15, 2014

Product provided a lot of extra room and held 5 sleeping bags and blankets etc but my husband was extremely displeased with the design. The mounting was awful and frustrating. He had to add extra support and it just needs a re-do overall on the design as to attachment issues but the bag itself is fine it just is a bad set up for mounting.

This was the "older" version of this model. They started making a new, improved version in October 2012. I thought that is what I'd be getting. I returned it and inquired with the company directly and was told that Wal Mart has the older version. Unfortunately, the model number remains the same so one has no real way of knowing. I got the new version (100% waterproof and it has poles for the bottom for support) from Amazon.
