Compass will NOT work in a 2016 RAV4
I bought this Ritchie Sport Compass to install on the dashboard of my new 2016 Toyota RAV4. Temporarily installed it in center of dashboard so that it was easy to view while driving. Followed instructions for setting it up for North, East, South and West. Discovered that it would stay pointing as it was pointing when I brought the compass into the car. Tried different viewing location on the dash and on the windshield. No location would work. If I held the compass at my chest while sitting in the drivers seat it would point correctly in which ever direction the car was pointing. But, anyplace on the dash or by the windshield, it would stay pointing in the direction it was pointing when I moved it from my chest to the dash or windshield. Obviously, a RAV4 has enough metal around the dash and windshield that blocks the magnetic North forces from being detected by the compass. Called Ritchie support hot line. All that they could recommend was to find a location in the car where the compass would work. If I can't see the compass while driving, obviously such a location is not useful. I have returned the compass for my money back from Walmart.
