I like two things about this more than the heat lamp I was using. First, it uses less power but still manages to keep the brooder in the temperature range I need. I tend to do smaller hatches of about a dozen chick and this is the best size I've found. Second, since this produces no light the birds are less active at night. I don't need to check at midnight to make sure they aren't out of water anymore. Since I hatch chicks as replacements for my layers I don't really want them eating round the clock. Having only natural light seems to work better for them and this heat source works best for me. Finally, while it keeps things warm enough I'm less concerned about fire than I was with the higher wattage bulb. The larger bulb got hot enough to melt plastic. The IR thermometer measures the hot spots on the fixture with this one at 150°F. It's still something to be cautious with, but it's less worrisome than the 250W bulb I had been using.
I buy all of my heat emitters here because they last a long time and I've never had a problem with them. I used them for my bearded dragon and geckos and in the spring I'll use them for my baby chicks.
Excellent quality
gets very warm. works. heats up fast. used it for chicken brooder.
I always buy from Rite Farms. They are excellent. You won't regret doing business with them.
Oddly, this 150 W bulb is quite small compared to 100 W bulb I aleady own. Gets hot which is good. Color is beige, not white. I will use it in bathroom a couple of days to be sure it is safe.
It worked great until it didn't. It gave off plenty of heat with no light but one day no longer worked. Hopefully just a defect. I will try again
Worked 1 hour and quit, have to return it, sorry.
I've only used this for 3 days and it's burnt out already. I checked the lamp with another bulb so it's not the lamp itself. My chicks are only 3 days old and now I'm scrambling to get them warm again.
Ordered two one was broke.
