I tried this Road Crew ice melt because it was the cheapest 50 pound bag I could find. What I found was it works just as good as the more expensive products. It is fast acting on snow and ice, but I like to put it down on my driveway at the start of a snow storm to prevent the ice and snow from building up in the first place. The only down side is it comes in a non-resealable bag. If you have a 5 gallon bucket to store it in, it will make your life easier than opening the bag and trying to keep it from tipping over and spilling.
I ordered this the week the ice storm was coming to Texas and it delivered before the ice! It really works. Kept the steps clear of ice no slipping or falling.
Our driveway was like a skating rink. I applied the rock salt and within three hours it did magic, melting thoroughly the ice.
meltdown was quick and easy
I appreciated the quick shipping time! But very misleading photo and description for this item. The photo and description indicated I was ordering ice melt pellets. Instead, I received a 50-pound bag of mostly rock salt, with maybe 20% of calcium/magnesium chloride pellets. The description photo shows all pellets. The price was fair if it indeed was a blend of chloride ice melt pellets - but way overpriced for mostly rock salt. I gave it 4 stars because the product was not caked - otherwise I was going to give it 3 stars for misleading advertising.
Works really well in the cold weather 20° and below a little bit clumpy but overall pretty easy to apply. Good value.
The picture on the Walmart product page and some of the description is misleading. White, round pellets of calcium chloride are shown and the 'form' it's in is listed as pellets too. In actuality, there appears to be less than 5% of these pellets in the "blend".....the rest is all crystalline in 'form'. Go to the Global Industrial website and look for : Model %23: WB640821 / MPN %23: 66700022 / Ice Melt Blend Fast Acting Crystals, 50 Lb. Bag There are two photos on the page. Look carefully and maximum zoom in on the "Road Crew" clear plastic bag. See those scarce little white pellets in there ? 2% even,,, ?? That is the product I received. The OTHER picture on that page is actually: Model %23: WB640823 / MPN %23: 66700050 That orange / yellow bag is listed as " 94% - 97%" calcium chloride pellets Totally different product.........totally different effect when applied.......yet both presented as if they were the same thing.......they are not. Walmart likely is provided the images for their product page by Global Industrial and if so, I doubt anyone at Walmart is "doing the math" on this and discovering this important discrepancy. I really wonder if anyone at Global Industrial has picked up on this....... but the optics on this are 'not so hot' and I would think more than a few final customers would feel *disappointed* by this discovery... * I did not choose to use the word "bamboozled" ** But it did come to mind..... ;}
Not at all like pictured. I had previously gotten an ice melt safe for pets and concrete that was as pictured. Little white pellets that were lightweight and effective. It was expensive but worth it. This is expensive but is no more than rock salt peppered with a few of the white pellets but 98% rock salt. Product was returned unopened.
Complete fraud. What I received was a mix with few pellets, mainly rock-salt. If I wanted rock salt, I would have ordered rock salt. Too late to return due to the impending storm. This crap better work.
never received. never delivered
