Rothco 1925” Steel “Handle” Folding Pick and Shovel

It's a really basic emergency use tool with regard to what what I see and fell as to the quality and reliability. I bought this only because my car got stuck in sandy soil, and the kind gentlemen who helped me get out, basically scooped out the loose soil from both sides of the drive tires with their hands, so it would roll and catch enough traction to back me out instead of burying the wheel to the axle. Side note: Wish I'd bought an all wheel drive car! Given that, I was looking for a tool I could use if I ever got stuck in that situation again, I could use it like a hoe, the way it's pictured, to dig out my wheels again. I almost bought a hoe and was going to cut off half the handle to fit into my trunk, until I remembered small Army surplus folding shovels like this when I was a kid, so I looked it up and bought it. I would definitely ONLY recommend this item for the same reason I bought it, only as a backup emergency tool if you get stuck in sandy soil or mud perhaps. It doesn't look like it would serve you well if you were on a camping trip and actually had to dig into hard ground or anything substantial. Or, to try to saw with the serrated side of the shovel blade, or pick at wild, angry gophers trying to attack you, using the pick appliance. Honestly, the cost for what I need is ideal. If you're a backpacker or camper, do yourself a favor and get a good, high quality USA made Army surplus folding shovel. You don't want to haul this one around and get only about 5 minutes of use out of it.

Metal is strong and should hold up well with digging and use of the pick. Strong metal handle is also a plus. The shovel cuts through the soil well and the pick is good to have with hard soil or soil with stones or debris.
