Royal %26 Langnickel was the first brand I had ever used in my art career! I still remember the Christmas when I was 12 years old, opening my first official tin-sealed set of graphite pencils and charcoal. Reviewing the entirety of the drawing set for Royal %26 Langnickel was a fun blast of nostalgia for me, and I loved jumping right in! Upon opening the set, I automatically loved the roll-up pencil case for all the graphite and colored pencils. Everything fit perfectly and smoothly, it was so nice that all the pencils came pre-sharpened as well. I started off using the graphite pencils testing between the drawing paper and the mixed media which created a noticeable difference in the pencils' performance. The drawing paper has a much better grain to it that lets the pencils have a deeper color to them. However, upon testing the graphite pencils in order, there was an extreme difference in their individual performance. Traditionally, from my understanding, 6B would be the darkest/softest of a 6B-5H set, while 5H would be the lightest/hardest. However, in comparing a gradient I made with each pencil, there is inconsistency throughout. Mainly in the harder pencils, H is the hardest while 3H is the softest and 4H is the second hardest to H, then 2H, 5H and 3H to follow from lightest to darkest. In the soft pencils, 6B has a nice, pronounced softness compared to the others, but not as deep as I have seen in some other soft pencils. The pencils from 3B-5B all have the same gradient and feeling of softness while 2B is the second softest of 2B-6B. The drawing eraser worked beautifully however, and even worked in pulling up some color from the colored pencils. For the colored pencils, there was a beautiful ability to blend in the reds and blues. The reds and oranges in particular blended perfectly with fairly bright color. The pencils with a lot of yellow additives, such as the yellows, browns, and greens were quite waxy with flatter color and a lacking blending ability. The neon-colored pencils and metallics, on the other hand, all performed wonderfully with fun and bright color. The purple and red metallic lacked the most in color but were still fun to blend. The yellow, pink, and green neon stood out as it was easy to lay down bright and full color. The willow charcoal sticks had good depth in hardest to softest, though the papers provided could only handle so much of the softer color, but what it did hold onto, it held onto very well. I started some small sketches with the different charcoal and the pencils were harder to lay down a lot of value, but they were good for small details. I used the kneaded eraser, shaping it to take away value to shape my sketches. However, the kneaded eraser was very oily, it stuck more to my hands than charcoal stuck to it, and it was difficult to shape even after some repeated use. For a starter set for artists or young students this set is perfectly portable, with a wide array of new tools to play with.
My son and I had so much fun using this set. As an artist, I was pleasantly surprised at all the color selections. Even fluorescent and metallic color pencils. Charcoal and quality drawing pencils!!! I can’t get over the metallic pencils and how vibrant. Awesome art set for any artist.
The clipboard is bigger than expected but other than that, it has everything I need to start drawing again. This is the best deal I found with everything great from beginners to masters. Wish it had a 3rd case to hold the rest that the other 2 don’t since I like to take it traveling. I definitely love it.
I love my new art set! It has everything I need and more! Awesome quality and great price! Very pleased with this set and plan to purchase another one to give as a gift.
It would make a nice gift. Comes with everything that a beginner would need to start exploring their creative side. 157 pieces actually. Yep... you read that right: 157!! Really enjoyed the markers and the pencils were smooth on paper. I gave it to my son to try out after I was done and he has made some really awesome sketches with it. He loves all the color choices. Just an overall great set.
This 157pc sketching and drawing art set is a great starter kit for anyone who's into drawing or anyone who's looking to get started! It has everything needed to get you going so you don't have to scramble and buy everything individually. What I love about this kit is that it doesn't feel cheap. Sometime when you buy the basic starter kit, the quality stinks but not this one. I love everything in this kit; especially the huge clipboard that comes in handy when I'm not drawing at my desk. You won't regret buying this for yourself or give it out as gift! *** I got this product for free in exchange for writing the review. My review is my honest opinion.
I received this product for free upon leaving a review. This art set is honestly amazing and comes with everything you need to bring your ideas to life. The charcoal pencils are top of the line, and the assortment of colored pencils has everything you are looking for. I have already recommended this product to people and will definitely purchase for myself after I have used this!!
I loved what this kit came with, lots of products for a great price. I also like that it came with storage to put the product in. Pencils and colored pencils were a great product. The erasers did not work as well as I had hoped, and the chalk and oil pastels were not as high of a quality as the rest of the products. It is a great starter kit for any young artist.
I love this high quality art set no matter which skill level you are and regardless of your age. These art set has so many premium tools like pastels, color pencils, charcoal and more. Especially my 10 yr old likes the pencil color offerings. It has carrying bags however those can improved to hold more things which came in the set.
the pencil rollup is only big enough to hold about 1\2 of the pencils and nothing else. The tiny little bag listed as a pencil case is to short to hold theses pencils. only way to keep every thing organized is to leave it in the original packing tray, otherwise it won't all fit in the included carrying bags. Lots of supplies that look to be good quality. Gonna keep for the supplies, and find some other way to organize and carry them. BUYER BEWARE.
