RTS Home Accents Rain Barrel Link Kit

This is the third rainbarrel I've bought, all of them the same. 50 gallon, flat back, oak finish, brass spigot. Each barrel holds enough water to do the planer boxes on ots side of the house through the entire summer. I highly recommend this product. Get the stand for it too. You won't regret it.

I really like this rain barrel. However, I wish that instead of the overflow in front, there was a port on the side near the top to re-connect back into my downspout so I can direct the water away from the house like I had it prior to installation. It doesn’t take much rain to fill the barrel, then flood out my flower bed and leave water standing next to my slab until it can drain. It isn’t unusual to get rain several days in a row in Spring time here. The ground is saturated and I am a little worried that it will drown my seedlings.

I got the brown 3/4 barrels (flat back) w/ the upgraded brass spigot. Good details: screen to keep out mosquitoes, risers available for ground clearance to connect a hose to the bib (which are absolutely necessary so you can drain it.) My one issue is standing water. The drain bib is about 3.5" above the bottom of the barrel so there is no easy way to get that last 2 gall. of water out. And it doesn't evaporate due to the barrel's closed construction. (This closed construction makes it impossible to clean or reach anything inside. Mine had a lot of plastic mold cast off pellets which tended to jam the spigot until inverted). To eliminate the standing water, how about an elevated bottom INSIDE THE BARREL so that INTERNALLY the bib opening is at the true bottom of the barrel. From the outside the bib is still elevated above the ground. Recommend with reservations.

I absolutely love the look my new rain barrel gives my side garden. It is lovely compared to the length of the gutter that ran across the ground and right through the landscaping. In addition, having rainwater to use for my watering needs is so eco friendly.

I have a down spout on the corner of my back yard and my fence runs off that corner. I was able to have the barrel up against the fence with the flat back. Started with one barrel. But I would run out of water before the next rain, so I bought a second one. Both 50 gallon. Easy set up, I didn't drill into the side of the barrel as the instructions state. I just connected the two barrels as shown in the picture.

We have gutters, but for some reason when it rains it runs over the gutter on one area on our lanai. This would cause excess rain water in an area of the lanai that water should not run to. I bought the rain barrel hoping that this would help our problem. It does a great job of collecting the rain. It is not rainy season yet here in Florida. I may have to hook up a hose to the rain barrel to drain the amount of rain we get into the pool. As long as my covered part of the lanai doesn't get all the excess rain I will be a very happy customer.

The rain barrel construction was fine. But just observing my first rainfall and it leaks around the spigot flange, not the spigot itself. I'll have to apply some sealant around the flange. Others have complained about the same problem. Maybe a different adhesion technique should be used at the factory or a small tube of sealant be provided with rain barrel.

I had trouble making the spigot screw in straight. The plastic threads on the barrel are not very welcoming. Brass threads would be a nice addition. I wish the top had an optional circular opening for my downspout pipe which is circular. The top was indented, so the flat screen gaps above the top.

Set up was relatively easy and the flat back makes the rain barrel easy to position. Sadly, the description on Wayfair did not seem to indicate that the kit needed to connect two rain barrels together was not included so that was disappointing. More a reflection on Wayfair than the rain barrels themselves.

I love that this rain barrel helps me achieve my goals of being a little more self reliant in my urban homestead. It looks great and is so sturdy! Fantastic product for anyone who wants to use rain water to take care of gardens, plants or live stock.
