It just works. 11 squirrels caught in two days. The waste pan was originally damaged/broken in shipment, and the company (Spreetail) sent a replacement unit out very quickly. There is nothing to do other than set the trap on level ground and add bait (peanuts), and the squirrels find it irrestible. Theywill keep entering the trap until there is no more bait.
Very easy to setup. Comes ready to work in its packaging. I recommend using some form of rabbit/guinea pig feed mix to catch ground squirrels. Our pest control guy recommended using peanuts. I didn’t have any success with those. Switched over to a corn/seed/peanut mix and it’s worked like a charm! 4 squirrels in 2 days. Throw some bait outside of each door, with the trail leading to the center of the cage. The traps are easy to move around and clean when needed.
This trap works great! First time we set it we got 15 rats! We've been battling a horrible rat population and this trap is helping. I highly recommend this trap. Be willing to be flexible with placement, bait and initial setup. It's recommended to set the trap but leave the door open to allow rats to freely go in and out, for one or two days. We didn't and the first night was amazing. Highly recommend.
has been very effective and keeps working even after 1 or 2 go inside. no need to keep resetting each time a rodent goes in.
Really works!! Caught 10 first night! Kept doors open first night and then closed them the next day. Doesn't get simpler than this! Really impressed!
Nothing to dislike. Have tried three other live traps for squirrels, none of which always worked or withstood squirrel attempts to chew their way out. Should have gotten these in the first place.
Very nice catch and release trap. I like that you do not have to attempt to hang the bait. The multiple doors are nice. Having the plastic pan to store and carry the trap is very handy. However, the design does not make it easy to catch more than a single rat at a time. We have now had the trap installed for two weeks. We have cameras on it. We see the first rat go in and get trapped. When the next rat happens by, it attempts to enter the trap. The first rat runs to where it came in to be released. This blocks the ramp so that the second rat cannot enter as the ramp will not lower with the first rat under it. Time and time again we have seen this happen. The trap either needs a second door like a petting zoo would have or someway to block the trapped rats from going under the ramp. We have caught multiple rats BUT only one at a time. There are other less expensive single rat traps. We have now ordered a rat/squirrel excluder to attach to the entry point to see if we can catch more than one rat at a time.
Worked for the first 2 weeks, caught about 20 rats around my chicken coop… then the rats figured out they could escape!!!! I literally watched them go inside, eat the bait, then come out and open the door!!! Rats are brilliant. It's been over a month and I haven't caught any more rats in the ratinator, ended up having to get rat traps and have just been catching them like that.
Maybe the rats in West Texas are larger and more tenacious than rats elsewhere, but the two this trap caught chewed through the clamps on the exit door within 8 hours of being trapped.
worked fine the 1st time. next time, rats were able to chew/force their way out %26 escaped.BIG FAIL!!!
