I have never used milk paint before but am I ever glad I did! I used it on an antique cabinet and it turned out beautifully!
Used it to repaint my wooden desk and bookshelf! I sanded, cleaned, and primed before painting, so if you're wondering about prep work, I can't really say. I did the prep, but I'm not sure if you necessarily have to in order to get the beautiful rich deep blue that it turned out. I will say this paint likes to go on in one stroke. It lifts back up if you try to brush over it again, so don't! Try to keep your strokes even and well coated, but try your very hardest to not have to go back over it. Because of this common issue with chalk paint (I researched a lot beforehand!), I had to do a total of 3 coats with a brush to get an even color across my wood furniture. My first coat I tried a chalk paint brush from Walmart (probably the cheap quality). I didn't like the way it painted so I changed to a professional synthetic brush for the last two coats (waayyy better). It looks great! Feel slightly grainy (which I expected with chalk paint-research), but I love the way it turned out!! I'll probably sand with a 120 grit to get an even/smooth feel on top of my desk and bookshelf if it bothers me too much. Overall, I am so happy with how my project turned out and I love the color so much! Also, my furniture looks like new again which is sooo exciting! I'm gonna post with pictures, but this is on coat 2 before coat 3 just to give you guys an idea of what I mean on some areas not being an even color. My review only let me post two photos because of the size of the files, so I shared the two of my desk. One is an overall shot and the other a closer up photo to see the color and texture a bit after 2 coats. It could be a technique or stylistic thing if you wanted to keep it that way. I didn't. I just wanted chalk paint for the durability and semi-matte finish.
I love this paint so much. The problem I had was the shipping. It arrived open and paint was everywhere... I called Walmart and they gave me a small credit but it was a gigantic mess when it came in the mail. Won't ever buy paint online again.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought these to add some rustic color to a salvage piece of furniture, and it turned out excellent. Solid deep color and opacity with two coats, and did the job perfectly. The finished product looks professionally done, and has gotten several compliments.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really enjoyed the color I choose. Our house is a blue color and we had the door painted in a navy. And It was the best decisions we could have ever made. It has a barn yard feel/look which i have been obessed with lately.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this- Cool, flat milk paint colors from a company who knows how to make great paint. I've painted for years, and often suffered poor wear or disappointing finish from trendy brands of milk paint. But Rustoleum got it right. Easy application, dries quick, and the finish gives a really lovely matte antique but sylish finish. I haven't had it long, so I can't speak to durability, but believe the Rustoleum name will prove this paint worthy of my time. I did a small bed side table and a small half wall in my kitchen, and was pleased with both. (I put finishing wax over it, just because I like that.)
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Rust oleum Milk paint was the perfect thing to save an old dresser that was headed for the landfill. It goes on smoothly and has great saturated color. It's easy to clean up and doesn't have an offensive odor. Any product that helps give life to things is a great product in my book!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Rustoleum Milk Paint was a pleasure to work with. The paint covered the wood with ease and only required a couple of coats to get the look we wanted. Clean up was easy as well. The color is rich and smooth looking creating a nice finished product.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love the color, the chalk milk paint look. Color is perfect, chalky, gives that antique look and very easy to use. Used it on an end table and love the look. Definitely would recommend Rustoleum. I get lots of compliments on my piece.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this on a couple of old bookshelves I had and they turned out great. The bookshelves were black with grey shelves and doors so I just painted the black blue to make them blue and grey. It went from "I should give these away" to "these are awesome" pretty quickly.
