It's a carpet and lays just fine. I like it under my dining table.

Messy choice for dining room
Dining area is the busiest part of an open floor plan, so I wanted a sturdy rug that could handle wear and tear. Not the best choice. The weave is thick so particles trapped in between will not come out during vacuuming—not even with a commercial shop-vac. The fiber is shedding in the tiniest pieces so there's a straw-like dust that gets caught in my rubber grip rub pad. Both the pad and rug (which is heavy) need to be rolled up so the floor underneath can be cleaned of the debris at least once a week.

Not exactly as pictured.
Half of the runner is a darker shade than the remainder of the rug. Not was I was expecting based upon the pictures. It looks fine in my rather dark hallway so I've decided to keep it.
